The #1 priority of admin should be staff morale. Everything else is secondary. Here's a few tips: * give them a voice * Trust them as professionals * Treat everyone as individuals/ humans * Respect their time * Show them you care personal/professional * celebrate/ appreciate
@DrBradJohnson @HarrisdalePS does a great job in this area. They have even created a scholarship to help their people develop
@DrBradJohnson So memorizing district goals & grilling faculty about then is NOT the #1 priority? Demoralizing and belittling when this is what the super wants from us.
@DrBradJohnson Trust them as professionals! That’s a huge one. That doesn’t happen enough. Trust and support, especially first year teachers!
@DrBradJohnson Perhaps there needs to be training or more training for administrators in building relationships with staff Too often thus us done after morale has sunk Once trust is gone it’s pretty hard to get it back
@DrBradJohnson One simple tip for school leaders: have frequent, intentional conversations with staff members one on one in their environment. Listen attentively without a predetermined subject or agenda. Be there, listen, encourage fresh thoughts, know them as people.
@DrBradJohnson Sadly, as long as the #1 priority of superintendents and school boards is ticking boxes in order to get all the State and Federal dollars they can get their hands on, all the above will be last in the queue.
@DrBradJohnson That right there Brad should be posted in every principal’s office for ALL to see!
@DrBradJohnson I don’t want donuts, I want them to come give me a prep
@DrBradJohnson Thank you and agreed! ♥️I would also include admin at the Board office level, too! They have a huge impact as decision makers!
@DrBradJohnson And then they take care of students in the same fashion
