Florida has become a leader in protecting animals and holding accountable those who harm them. Today, we built on that record with new legislation to strengthen penalties for animal abuse and improve consumer protections for pet owners.   HB 559 gives law enforcement and local communities additional tools to crack down on animal abuse, including new felony penalties for horrific acts of animal cruelty. SB 1004 enhances legal protections for Floridians who buy and own pets and provides real accountability for businesses that violate the law. Florida is a law-and-order state. We will not tolerate those who abuse and exploit innocent animals, and we will defend the rights of responsible pet owners.

BREAKING: We've obtained heartbreaking videos of dogs suffering in a University of Washington lab that got new funding from RFK Jr.'s NIH. This Fauci-era lab's NIH funding is set to expire on April 30, and we need to ensure @NIHDirector_Jay and "animal testing czar" Nicole Kleinstreuer don't renew it. This decades-old @UW lab has received over $15 million from the @NIH, and got more funding last April, to intentionally breed dogs to suffer from muscular dystrophy and kill them in barbaric experiments. Last summer, we requested videos and other records about these tests from the NIH and UW through FOIA. This month, we finally obtained shocking videos from inside the UW lab showing the poor dogs struggling to stand and walk, and even keep their enlarged tongues in their mouths. Records detail how the dogs are subjected to repeated injections and muscle biopsies and develop painful complications like heart disease and muscle atrophy. After undergoing this debilitating testing, all the dogs are killed. This lab's current NIH funding expires on April 30. But UW says that, "we have an active breeding colony and will seek further support to expand the studies." We can't let this happen. WOW: RFK Jr. was just grilled about the NIH approving new funding for cruel beagle labs on his watch. “You’re still giving money to groups through the NIH that are using beagles!” Watch this shocking moment from today’s hearing: Rep. Mark Pocan cited our investigations to call out this shocking example of NIH funding for beagle labs: “In my district, we have something called Ridglan Farms that’s a beagle breeder for research.” “Grants are still, in the last month, going to groups that are getting beagles from Ridglan Farms.” “The head of NIH… said that there’s a policy about beagle testing that would not allow animals to be tortured.” “And that’s part of what’s happening with this facility.” Kennedy: “I have a hard time believing that.” “I need to look into this.” “We’ve ended most of it.” That’s not true. We have already exposed that, under Kennedy, the NIH literally approved new funding for beagle labs just this month. This is exactly why we’re running our WTF RFK ad campaign across the country. NIH is intentionally inducing muscular dystrophy in dogs, watching them deteriorate, and then killing them. In six days, Director @NIHDirector_Jay will decide if more animals will have to suffer. These videos just came back from a @WhiteCoatWaste FOIA request, and they're heartbreaking. The dogs are seen struggling to walk, clearly in pain, and unable even to hold their tongues in their mouths. Over $15,000,000 of our tax dollars have gone to cause this suffering. Secretary Kennedy promised this would end. Current NIH funding for this University of Washington lab expires April 30th. The university already stated its intention to seek renewal. Requiring adoption appointments leads to fewer and slower adoptions, especially of medium to large long-term dogs — and at regressive pounds, that amounts to a death sentence.
