I realized the impact & legacy delusion when I asked myself: Who was the richest person in the world in the year 1960? How about in 1970? How about in 1950? How about in 1820? I did not know the answers to any of these. (of course, I could easily look it up, but that isn't the point) Legacy and impact are inventions of the mind to make us feel more in control in what is a fundamentally uncontrollable universe, to feel altruistic, to feel like we are a good person. They are pointless immortality quests created by a mind that has an extremely primitive understanding of the universe, of existence, and our place in it. It is the ego that wants to be immortal. It is the ego that wants to still be remembered after we are dead. What to pursue instead? A joy of the craft. A tranquil mind. A happy home. (I am still working on this, not yet fully there)
