Everyone is bummed that Wisconsin got knocked out of the NCAA Tournament early, myself included. But can we stop acting like the program is in shambles under Greg Gard? You don’t have to like the guy, but he’s a damn good head coach. The negativity is out of hand.
@DillonGraff Let’s stop pretending Badger Basketball has a legacy of entrenched culture and a “Wisconsin Way”. We are in shambles. Some are simply those too close to see it. Time to cut the cord to Bo Ryan and reset the culture.
@DillonGraff He's a great guy and coach, but how has he elevated Wisconsin Basketball?
@DillonGraff Program has taken a step back and you say “damn good.” Shame on you. You can suggest “could be worse” but come on man. Have some shame
The problem with this is it is obvious this team has regressed under Gard’s recruiting. His most successful years came with Bo Ryan recruits. I’ll admit he is a solid coach when it comes to the X’s and O’s, but he has lacked for bringing in any game changing talent. Storr was the best addition under Gard and he was a transfer portal snag. I think if it isnt over, this surely has to be a prove it year.
@DillonGraff He can go Fire him and bring in TJ Otzelberger. Then we can start keeping Wi guys and be good
@DillonGraff What has UW done under him in the last 5 years? We can't even keep the top recruits in state!
@DillonGraff One could compare Gard's tenure with that of Bruce Weber at Illinois. Bruce was an excellent x's & o's coach who couldn't recruit at a B1G level. Illinois worsened the issue by hiring a worse successor with Groce. It led to a decade of blah. Maybe there are parallels. Maybe not.
@DillonGraff It’s not negativity. It’s truth telling. Appeared in Sweet 16 7 times between 2007 and 2017. That was the expectation in and out of the program. That’s the target and many don’t believe Gard can get us there having nothing to do with whether he is a good person or a good coach.
