Am I becoming a republican because while I don’t think he should have gotten shot/possibly killed and cops are bad at deescalating anything, but maybe he should have just stopped?

@JaceTomo I think a better question is, how, in a “free country,” we have “DUI Checkpoints.”? Where in a country that allegedly has protections against illegal search & seizure, does a road checkpoint exist?
@GrownRoom Because people drive drunk. Pretty sure we accept that so we can limit a family of 4 getting killed needlessly for some asshole drinking and driving.
@JaceTomo People also drive with illegal weapons in their vehicles. They drive with criminalized drugs in their cars. Should we have checkpoints for vehicle searches for all those potential risks? Or should we require probable cause of a crime being committed before we stop people?
@JaceTomo Because that’s what the 4th amendment guarantees as a right. We either have that right or we don’t.
@GrownRoom Not everything’s black and white. We give up some freedoms for safety all the time. Grow up.
@JaceTomo You didn’t answer any of my questions. I’m assuming from your reply that the answer is “yes,” and that “safety” trumps the 4th amendment?
@JaceTomo @GrownRoom LOL, you ask a question, someone answers it and you get pissy about it. The answer is, yes, you are a Republican if you support random search and seizure which, as already pointed out, are against the Constitution.
