1 in 5 teachers have been hit by a pupil in the past year. Pupil behaviour has got worse according to the report below. bbc.co.uk/news/education…
@DeputyGrocott If you want to see the interview on BBC Breakfast it has literally just been on. Catch it on iplayer from about 7.20am. I have witnessed a parent verbally attack a teacher and that was within the school building, with children present, and it was 2009!
@DeputyGrocott It’s not just England. We’ve seen a rise in incidents as well. Doesn’t matter where it is, it’s unacceptable.
@DeputyGrocott Left my role as a Reception TA because the verbal & physical abuse was too much. Reception class!! It made me so ill the nurse wouldn’t let me go to school, she basically told me there was a big chance my gravestone could get written. New job, now in FE, loving life.
@DeputyGrocott Wonder what the statistics were 35 years ago when corporal punishment in schools was abolished? After all as we were told then, ‘violence begets violence’.
@DeputyGrocott And this is the price paid for having high control, zero tolerance academies. Kids kick off. It was NOT this way when I started teaching in the 80s, and remained thus until 2010.
@DeputyGrocott In Scotland too.
@DeputyGrocott I know of a high school where they need 3 members of staff in some lessons/ areas of the school. It’s unbelievable
@DeputyGrocott I was thumped by a violent ten year old who said, “I’m going to batter you!” because I asked him repeatedly to get off my chair! The Head reported ME and the child was given ONE day exclusion (again). Hands are scared of parents I would seem! 😕
