MISSING IN ACTION!? That's the latest report out of Tennessee, where House members are dodging meetings about @DefendTheGuard. After voting last session to delay passage and push our bill into a summer study, and subsequently holding no meetings, members are now avoiding accountability for leaving American veterans out in the cold. With four weeks' notice, four members confirmed their availability (in writing) at a meeting organized by our sponsor and local activists. Yesterday, all four skipped the meeting with late refusals. SHAME is why they refuse to show their faces to their constituents, after meekly accepting reprimand from the military establishment. But we will not let them avoid accountability after their betrayal of public trust. The members, and their office numbers, are Speaker @CSexton25 (615-741-2343), Chairwoman Iris Rudder (615-741-8695), Rep. Jeff Burkhart (615-741-6804), Rep. @JakeMcCalmonTN (615-741-4389). Call and inform them what you think of their absenteeism!

All AUMFS must be repealed, most importantly 2001. These blank checks are an unconstitutional concession of enumerated powers from one branch of the federal government to another. Article I, Sec. 8 gives sovereign decision making over war powers to Congress, not the president!
The House Rules Committee has reported the rule. meaning there will likely be a vote on the House floor to repeal the 1991 and 2002 AUMFs.

This policy divide is a perfect example of why Defend the Guard is not just lawful-it's necessary. The federal government is already treating the Guard differently. It's time states do the same-by asserting control over our Guard units and defending the Constitution.
The DoD may boot trans troops from active duty but not the National Guard—proving what we've said all along: The Guard is different. It answers to the states, not DC. #DefendTheGuard ensures states—not the feds—decide when our Guard goes to war.
