NIO Signs Agreement with the Kunming Biodiversity Fund On May 22, 2026, NIO signed an agreement with the Kunming Biodiversity Fund, becoming the first company to make a financial contribution to the Fund. NIO will launch a dedicated initiative and contribute funding and resources to support biodiversity conservation in developing countries. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Chinese Co-Chair of the Fund, the Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China, and Qin Lihong, Co-Founder and President of NIO. The agreement was jointly signed by a representative of the Fund and Shen Feng, Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Quality Management Committee of NIO. In 2021, China announced the establishment of the Kunming Biodiversity Fund at the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity to support biodiversity conservation in developing countries. On May 28, 2024, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office formally signed a cooperation agreement, marking the official launch of the Fund. The Kunming Biodiversity Fund is the world’s first biodiversity fund initiated by developing countries, dedicated to supporting other developing countries. It upholds the principles of international operations and multilateralism, and provides grant-based assistance to support developing countries in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The Fund focuses on key areas including ecosystem conservation and restoration, sustainable use of biodiversity, prevention and control of invasive alien species, and benefit-sharing of digital sequence information on genetic resources. As of December 2025, the first batch of nine projects has been implemented, and a second batch of 22 fully-funded projects has been approved, benefiting 34 developing countries. NIO’s signing of the agreement with the Fund marks another significant step in its engagement in global biodiversity governance, following its launch of the Clean Parks initiative in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the UNDP. Meanwhile, Clean Parks has been included as a successful “Business and Biodiversity” case study in China’s Seventh National Report on the Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity. NIO will continue to uphold its mission, leveraging its strengths in green technology and clean energy. Together with users and global partners, NIO will take tangible action to support global biodiversity conservation and contribute to building a community of life on Earth, helping shape a sustainable and brighter future.
