Switzerland pays pensioner couples £44,000 a year and a referendum has just voted to give them an annual '13th month' bonus. But here in Britain, we're told the lowest pensions in western Europe are 'unsustainable'.
@David__Osland Pension is not a benefit- its OUR money we pay in whilst working and HOPE to get it back when retire but this Corrupt government seem to think its their money that they are giving us back as a benefit
@David__Osland @i_pinkwolfie We're broke because one man's overweaning ambition led him to persuade half the country to vote for a disaster, in order to pave his way to the top job. It's a tragedy Shakespearean in proportions.
@David__Osland Understand that friends in Germany have state pension of around £28,000 each.
The systems are not even marginally comparable. In Switzerland, you spend your entire working life paying into a personal savings plan, which is then paid back out to you at a predefined rate, e.g. 5% per year. You get back out what you put in.
@David__Osland What, this Switzerland ?
@David__Osland I spent a week in Switzerland, £44k a year isn’t exactly a lot of money over there.
@David__Osland Being chronically ill and disabled I am treated like a criminal and ripping the country off whilst I "laze" about. I get less than £11,000 a yr. That has to pay for aids, medication, supplements, compression garments. What's left pays for heating. 🧵
@David__Osland @guse_guse Crikey! Anyone want to marry me & move to Switzerland? 🙏
@David__Osland The Swiss can afford it, we can't. Their GDP per capita is 1.5x ours. The solution is not whining online, it getting idle Brits back to productive work.
