Back when NoSQL was hyped and people were choosing Mongo (and its kin) for no reason other than "it's webscale" [1], I made a prediction to some colleagues that we'll soon be back to SQL. I think that prediction turned out to be true. People seem better at making DB choices, and "just use postgres" is even a meme. I'm going to make the same prediction for the "repatriating off the cloud" thing. In an excel sheet, it's going to continue to look like a great choice. But many drawn-out failures later, people will stop focusing only on the excel sheet numbers. The failures may not be apparent, and will take a while to register. Some may do a hybrid approach, and regret it immensely because hybrid envs are messier to manage. My prediction is based on the (a) it's incredibly hard to find good talent in infra (b) hybrid clouds are messy (c) infra failures are costly, and makes devs and customers unhappy (d) it's nice to have an option to pick another managed service when you need it It seems more likely that smaller companies that don't need the features and scale of the big-three clouds may be more successful in moving off the cloud, or using middle-ground providers like Vultr. It's possible that new, better, and cheaper provider spawn up and complement the big-three. Providers like Vultr will evolve be useful as a middle-ground. It's also possible that the big-three wise up and start providing more value. [1]: I actually had a CEO use those words to me to justify why he wanted Mongo instead of the MySQL instance they were using at that time. They had no problems with the MySQL perf

@VMCVadodara No water since 3-4 days now in Blue Ocean, Harni. We are fed-up with this kind of water supply service. We are paying tanker charges, high electricity bill due to bore motors running 10+hr What's the use of paying property tax being in area under VMC. #nowater #vmc
