While the DataSETUP modules are being implemented and refined, we are working hard on the DataSETUP online learning platform. Through the platform, everyone will be able to access the modules and share their thoughts with us.
We are excited to be able to share with you soon!
Key takeaways from our #DataSETUP presentation at #GDM2025:
- Pre-service teachers engage actively with data before forming research questions
- Communicating results remains a challenge
- Students set own research focus, highlighting need for multivariate datasets
#DataLiteracy
Representing DataSETUP at CERME14 - we received great feedback on the DataSETUP framework and the very first module on digital gaming. Other mathematics educators were particularly delighted with the simplicity of the framework, enabling discussions with novices

(2) As part of the Rose Day, Dionysia Bakogianni had the opportunity to present the focus and objectives of DataSETUP and share some initial insights regarding the implementation that is currently underway. We made a promise to show more soon.

(1) In December, the Rose Day took place at Karlstad University, a seminar during which researchers from various (STEAM) fields (Geography, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Language, and others) presented ongoing research projects and plans that are currently in progress.
Getting to know the team behind DataSETUP!
Last but not least, we would like to introduce our partners of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (@uoaofficial). They lead the work package on assessment and evaluation, ensuring high-quality outputs.

The team of DataSETUP wishes all of you a happy new year and all the best for 2025!
Let's continue working on improving the pre-service teacher education in all STEM subjects to keep up with the demands of our ever-changing society.

Ioulia Televantou from the Cypriot team participated in the 25th Annual Conference of AEA-Europe (2024.aea-europe.net). She presented a poster on the validation of the Greek version of the Student Survey of Motivational Attitudes toward Data Science (S-SOMADS).
Thanks, Ioulia
Getting to know the team behind DataSETUP!
Today, we are introducing our partners that take the lead on the work package dedicated to teaching modules - the very core of our project.

In the following weeks, we will introduce you to the team of DataSETUP and their backgrounds!
Today, you will get to know the team of the project management as well as the partner leading the work packag on the conceptual framework.
Stay tuned for the rest of our amazing team!
If you want to follow our updates, make sure to register for our newsletter: listserv.uni-muenster.de/mailman/listin…
In our newsletter, we regularly report on the most recent activities within the project and will inform you about resources and materials that are being developed.
(3) Of course, we took advantage of the location of our second transnational meeting and used the hours before and after our meeting to explore beautiful Athens. What a privilege to work in an international project like this!
(2) The main focus of this meeting was to finalize the 2nd draft of the conceptual framework and to refine the templates of the modules that are currently being designed by the partners. Implementation will start soon, so we are looking forward to sharing materials with you soon!
(1) In September, the team of DataSETUP met at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece for its 2nd transnational meeting. After 10 months of the project, it was time to consider what has already been achieved and what the next steps of the project will look like.
(2) There were several workshops, discussion groups and topic study groups on data science as well as related disciplines such as statistics, computational thinking and STE(A)M. This highlights the importance of data science and our project, especially in teacher ed.
(1) In July, members of our team attended the 15th International Congress on Mathematical Education in Sydney, Australia (icme15.org). At ICME15, more than 2000 maths educators from around the globe gathered to present & exchange ideas on emerging trends in maths ed.
(2) We productively exchanged ideas about a sub-area of data science and what role it should have in pre-service teacher education. We are looking forward to integrating these thoughts into our modules that are currently being created.
(1) At the summer conference of the AG PriMaMedien of the German Society for Mathematics Education (pri-ma-medien.de) in Saarbrücken, we were able to discuss our ideas with German researchers in math education and basic computer science education.
