I’ve been following the drama around NPR CEO Katherine Maher, and, while lots of conservatives are dunking on her tweets and statements, I don’t see a lot of liberals circling the wagons around her. But a lot of them were just like her between 2017 and 2020.
If Maher is forced to step down over her “in this house” tweet history, a lot of other people who advanced their careers a few years ago by being performatively woke could also be in trouble. I guess their plan is to just delete their old tweets and try to keep their heads down.
Yeah that’s the thing about liberals. Tend to be cowards deep down inside with barks louder than their bites. Also, the problem with conservatives, tend to be performatively outraged when necessary just to fight back against wokeness. When in reality, this woman said what we all know is true — that free speech is being co-opted by had actors to profit from and spread disinformation, where they then sell nutrition supplements and other branded products to their audience that they keep in a perpetual state of rage no matter the veracity of the underlying material. And that’s the best case scenario of weaponized disinformation. That’s the most benign expression of the problem.
@DanFriedman81 Wouldn’t it be better to have her hanging around?
@DanFriedman81 That’s because like all vampires, liberals can’t see their reflection.
@DanFriedman81 NPR itself seems to be circling the wagons, but agreed not too many others out there. I suspect if/when a resignation comes, this will have more institutional effects than it otherwise would, because NPR seems to be tying itself to her.
@DanFriedman81 I am a moderate Democrat deeply concerned about the rot of an institution Also Uri Berliner is blowing the whistle.
@DanFriedman81 At some point fast, the verbiage needs to change. Its not "conservative vs liberals" anymore and has not been for some time.
