Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Elder Pauline Shirt. Elder Pauline shirt founded @KWSS_TDSB along with the late Elder Vern Harper.
Today we brought awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirited People ahead of Red Dress Day on May 5th. We put our flags at half mass, coordinated a faceless doll project and held a sacred fire to honour our stolen sisters. @UIEC_Tdsb @tdsb

Labelling of Black students by educators begins prior to Spec Ed recommendations.Before they sign off on assessment forms, language is weaponized (e.g“troublemaker”)to mark/define their presence. Instead of support, they're removed, disciplined &/or experience heavy surveillance.
Thinking about how K-12 educators forget that “behaviors" in students oftentimes comes from trauma they endure. Many aren't able to vocalize it and will show you before they tell you that they are in distress. How are you meeting their needs with support, compassion, love, care?
