Fed June projections put median PCE inflation at 3.6% for 2026, then 2.3% in 2027 and 2.0% longer-run. Private forecasts generally see headline CPI settling in the mid-to-high 2% range by late 2027 if energy stabilizes and demand softens modestly. Core measures (excluding food/energy) are already closer to target territory (~2.5% YoY in July CPI), which is the better signal for underlying trend once energy volatility fades. What “return to” levels actually means Do not expect a return to 2019–2020 or even early-2024 absolute price levels for the overall basket. Cumulative inflation since 2021 has permanently raised the price level. What improves is the rate of change: • Gas could settle closer to the mid-$3s in a benign scenario (still above pre-conflict norms). • Grocery inflation in the low-to-mid 2%s would feel like relative relief versus the last couple of years. • Restaurant and service prices are slower to ease and may stay elevated relative to groceries for longer. • Shelter remains a gradual process. Risks that delay relief include renewed energy spikes, stronger demand, or sticky services. The current cooling in producer prices is constructive, but consumers will feel it unevenly and with a lag—more at the pump and grocery aisle first, less so at restaurants or in rents right away.

The PIP is a tool that benefits poor performing employees. It’s a last attempt to provides a clear picture that the employer is not happy with their performance. If written correctly it makes the decision for the employee easy. Either get your sh*t together or you have 3 months to find another job. The PIP should follow a lot of coaching, and conversations about performance. I agree that if they have no desire to improve then they should use that time to find another job, including using PTO to go on interviews. I always hope the employee will find something else that better suits them before the end of the PIP. This notion that Managers are evil and don’t care about people is not true for everyone. And the notion that all employees who get termed are victims isn’t either.
