Stolen Toyota Corolla Cross recovered near Beitbridge, suspect arrested A 44-year-old Zimbabwean national has been arrested after police recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport during an anti-smuggling operation in the Makhado policing area. According to Limpopo SAPS, members of the Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit, working with private security partners, acted on intelligence that a vehicle stolen in Gauteng was being driven towards the Beitbridge Port of Entry for possible smuggling out of the country. Police intercepted the vehicle along the N1 North. The driver allegedly ignored instructions to stop, leading officers on a high-speed chase before the vehicle was eventually brought to a halt. Preliminary investigations revealed that the white Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport, valued at approximately R600,000, had been reported stolen in the Krugersdorp policing area on 17 July 2026. The suspect is expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, on charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, as well as reckless and negligent driving. Police investigations are continuing.

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: Kruger poacher sentenced to 11 years after armed confrontation with rangers A 50-year-old Mozambican national has been sentenced to an effective 11 years’ direct imprisonment by the Skukuza Regional Court after being convicted on multiple poaching-related charges. Mario Masiya was arrested in December 2024 after Kruger National Park rangers spotted him and another suspected poacher hiding in a known poaching hotspot near Lower Sabie. According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the second suspect allegedly opened fire on the rangers, who returned fire, fatally wounding him. Masiya was arrested at the scene. He was convicted on seven charges, including: • Trespassing in the Kruger National Park • Being in South Africa illegally • Illegal possession of a firearm • Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number • Illegal possession of ammunition • Conspiracy to commit a crime • Possession of a dangerous weapon Although the sentences imposed on the individual charges were longer, the court ordered some to run concurrently, resulting in an effective sentence of 11 years’ direct imprisonment. The court also declared Masiya unfit to possess a firearm.

Five SAPS officers appear in court on corruption charges Five South African Police Service (SAPS) constables attached to the West Rand Public Order Policing (POP) Unit have appeared before the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption following their arrest by the Gauteng Anti-Corruption Unit. The accused are: • Thabang Petrus Mabapa (36) • Karabo Mpati (31) • Pfano Mugeri (32) • Nsovo Marvin Mudabula (34) • Rudzani Vhutali Nelushi (31) According to the allegations, the officers stopped a motorist during a stop-and-search operation on 12 July 2026 at the intersection of R41 Road and Badshani Street in Rietvallei, Azaadville. The complainant alleges that after informing officers he had approximately R22,000 in cash in his vehicle, one officer took the money, questioned its origin, and returned only R2,000, allegedly retaining the remaining amount despite being told the funds were lawfully earned. The matter was reported to Kagiso SAPS, and the complainant allegedly identified the five officers after they were instructed to report to the police station. The accused have been charged with corruption. As the matter is before the courts, they remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The State has indicated that it will oppose bail as the matter falls under Schedule 5 of the Criminal Procedure Act. This means the accused must satisfy the court that it is in the interests of justice for him to be released on bail. Pinkoane faces charges of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident that allegedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 12 July 2026, outside BK Lifestyle Cafe in Sebokeng. It is alleged that an argument broke out over the purchase of the remaining gizzards being sold at the establishment. The accused allegedly retrieved his service pistol from a state vehicle and fired at three men before driving away. One man died at the scene, a second sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, while a third escaped without physical injuries. Police later arrested the accused at his residence. SAPS has confirmed that internal disciplinary processes will also be instituted while the criminal case proceeds through the courts. As with all criminal matters, the accused remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Johannesburg Mayor calls for large-scale immigration enforcement operation Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, has called on the Minister of Home Affairs to urgently intervene in what he describes as serious challenges facing the city. Morero says ongoing operations have allegedly uncovered numerous buildings and businesses that are harbouring undocumented foreign nationals, raising concerns about compliance with immigration laws, public safety and criminal activity. He has called for a coordinated operation involving the Department of Home Affairs, SAPS, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and other law enforcement agencies to verify the legal status of occupants, enforce immigration laws and restore order. “The message is clear: everyone must comply with South African law. Those who are in the country legally have nothing to fear, but where there are violations of immigration or other laws, the relevant authorities must act decisively,” Morero said.

Businessman arrested for alleged malicious damage to property in Polokwane A 51-year-old businessman has been arrested following an intelligence-driven operation by the Limpopo Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit in connection with two cases of malicious damage to property. The suspect was arrested at his residence in Welgelegen, Polokwane, on Monday, 13 July 2026, after police executed a warrant of arrest. According to police, the investigation relates to two incidents reported on 28 June 2026. A signboard belonging to a rehabilitation centre in Ladanna was allegedly set alight before a Toyota Hilux Extended Cab was allegedly torched at a residence in Seshego Zone 3. The fire extensively damaged the vehicle and spread to part of the house, where seven people were asleep. Neighbours managed to extinguish the flames before further damage or injuries occurred. The estimated value of the damage is approximately R800,000. Police also seized a Toyota Fortuner believed to have been used in the commission of the offences. The suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego and Polokwane Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, on charges of malicious damage to property. Police investigations are continuing.

The arrests followed an intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operation conducted by the Limpopo Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit, supported by private security partners. Police intercepted the two vehicles travelling in convoy along the N1 South in the Westenburg policing area outside Polokwane. Preliminary investigations revealed that: • A silver Toyota Corolla Cross had been reported stolen in the Brooklyn policing area, Pretoria. A 43-year-old South African man was arrested while driving the vehicle. • A Mazda 2 had been reported stolen in the Silverton policing area, Pretoria. A 45-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested while driving the vehicle. Both suspects face charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles. The recovered vehicles have been seized for further investigation. Police say investigations into possible cross-border vehicle smuggling activities are continuing.

Authorities seize illicit and counterfeit goods worth R77.9 million in Limpopo A multi-agency law enforcement operation conducted in Tzaneen, Phalaborwa and Mankweng between 7 and 9 July 2026 has resulted in the seizure of illicit and counterfeit goods with an estimated value of R77.9 million. The operation, led by the National Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Unit in collaboration with several law enforcement and regulatory agencies, resulted in the seizure of 162,072 illicit and counterfeit items. Among the confiscated goods were: • Branded clothing and footwear • Jewellery • Cosmetics • Fashion accessories • Toys • Consumable goods • Illicit medicines • Agricultural products, including pesticides and honey • Alcohol • Electrical, automotive and mechanical products that failed to comply with compulsory specifications Authorities also issued 37 non-compliance notices to businesses found to be violating applicable legislation. Acting Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers, commended SAPS members and partner agencies for their efforts in combating the trade in illicit and counterfeit goods, protecting consumers and enforcing compliance with South African laws.
