When coaches say "listen to the message, not the tone," or "absorb what is said, not how it is being said," I'm often left wondering….why that, too, is put on the player? If your tone or delivery hinders your ability to best deliver your message and have it acted upon positively, then change your tone or delivery. I get it, coaching is hard. But, coaches talk a lot about getting better and being accountable, rightfully so. Then, coaches need to be accountable for the tone and delivery of the message, and strive to get better. Your tone and delivery is not on the players, it’s on you.
@JayBilas I struggle w/ this stuff all they time. If I am asking my players to do it the way I ask, then I need to resemble what I am asking of them. Coaching is tough, emotional, and HARD. I'm not perfect, but I try and admit my shortcomings and move forward. All u can do
