A random thing someone told me once that I now think about constantly: If you feel like you hate everyone, eat. If you feel like everyone hates you, sleep. If you feel like you hate yourself, shower. If you feel like everyone hates everyone, go outside.
I worry about "stuff that forces you to lie." Like airlines ask you "do you have a cold, cough, tiredness, itchy nose, sniffles or your foot hurts?" And if you have sniffles your choices are to tell the truth, miss your flight and lose $600, or lie. That's bad incentives.

This is my main issue. Even without full recoveries - which I know first hand take a very long time - my main question is why exactly ZERO sites showed positive movement after 7 months? Not even 10%, 20%? I have the data right in front of me. Most sites fell by over 90%.
@lilyraynyc And also would love to hear their theories that websites can recover at any time (or might take months per John), but there are no instances. Those seem like impossible odds in light of what we are being told.

@lilyraynyc @Suzzicks My non-expert theory: The weeds (AI/spam) were spreading far faster than Google could keep up with, and came primarily from niche type sites, and Google decided their best defense was to nuke the entire niche sector. Good sites are collateral damage.
@lilyraynyc @Suzzicks Corporate/Forum sites were "safer" so they gave them priority. Still a lot of bad results in those as you've often pointed out, but they don't have all the little independent AI operators. Makes the field manageable and now they can focus on weeding things out again.
@Suzzicks I would have expected to see Google do a better job of separating the pure spam - which was rightfully penalized - from legitimate human bloggers. I am seeing way too many examples of the latter seemingly being treated like the former, algorithmically.
John, any chance you can comment on the fact that many HCU-affected websites - which have been making all kinds of improvements over the last 7 months - have only seen further declines with the March Core Update? I have seen some sites lose 90% or more of their SEO visibility…
@JepsenThomas That's still the case. That said, some things take much longer to be reassessed (sometimes months, at the moment), and some bigger effects require another update cycle. developers.google.com/search/updates… has some more.
