There is a process that I have used, and still use, to reignite life... Create two timelines—6 months and 12 months—and list up to five things you dream of having (including, but not limited to, material wants: house, car, clothing, etc.), being (be a great cook, be fluent in Chinese, etc.), and doing (visiting Thailand, tracing your roots overseas, racing ostriches, etc.) in that order. If you have difficulty identifying what you want in some categories, as most will, consider what you hate or fear in each and write down the opposite. Do not limit yourself, and do not concern yourself with how these things will be accomplished. For now, it’s unimportant. This is an exercise in reversing repression. Be sure not to judge or fool yourself. If you really want a Ferrari, don’t put down solving world hunger out of guilt. For some, the dream will be fame, for others fortune or prestige. All people have their vices and insecurities. If something will improve your feeling of self-worth, put it down. Drawing a blank? In that case, consider these questions: 1) What would you do, day to day, if you had $100 million in the bank? 2) What would make you most excited to wake up in the morning to another day? Don’t rush—think about it for a few minutes. If still blocked, fill in the five “doing” spots with the following: — one place to visit — one thing to do before you die (a memory of a lifetime) — one thing to do daily — one thing to do weekly — one thing you’ve always wanted to learn What does “being” entail doing? Convert each “being” into a “doing” to make it actionable. Identify an action that would characterize this state of being or a task that would mean you had achieved it. People find it easier to brainstorm “being” first, but this column is just a temporary holding spot for “doing” actions. Here are a few examples: 1) Great cook —> make Christmas dinner without help 2) Fluent in Chinese —> have a five-minute conversation with a Chinese co-worker Determine three steps for each of the dreams in just the 6-month timeline and take the first step now. Define three steps for each dream that will get you closer to its actualization. Set actions—simple, well-defined actions—for now, tomorrow (complete before 11 A.M.) and the day after (again completed before 11 A.M.). Once you have three steps for each of the four goals, complete the three actions in the “now” column. Do it now. Each should be simple enough to do in five minutes or less. If not, rachet it down. If it’s the middle of the night and you can’t call someone, do something else now, such as send an e-mail, and set the call for first thing tomorrow. If the next stage is some form of research, get in touch with someone who knows the answer instead of spending too much time in books or online, which can turn into paralysis by analysis. The best first step, the one I recommend, is finding someone who’s done it and ask for advice on how to do the same.

The US men's national soccer team is being subjected to the same kind of legalized plunder that defines too many divorce proceedings in this country. After grinding through qualifiers, earning their spot in the World Cup, and generating the massive FIFA payout that only the men's game can produce ($12.8 million in this case), the players are now forced to hand over a huge chunk of that money to the women's team under the "equal pay" collective bargaining agreement. The women didn't play a single minute of those matches, didn't draw the crowds, didn't sell the tickets, and didn't create the revenue - yet they still get a cut of the men's prize money while the reverse transfer remains a fraction. Yes the women are more successful (having won the Women's World Cup several times) but the prize is much smaller. Why? It reflects differences in global interest, sponsorship, viewership and actual performance. This is all under the guise of "parity" between "equivalent work." But in reality, it's more like subsidizing one program with the output of the other, just like the ex-spouse cashing checks from earnings she didn't generate. "Equal pay" sounds noble until you realize it erases differences in market value, risk, audience draw, and results. It disincentivizes excellence on the men's side (why push harder if your windfall gets redistributed?) and removes pressure on the women's side to grow their own commercial appeal. Like divorce settlements that trap high-earners in perpetual support roles, this policy treats men's soccer as a piggy bank for "fairness," not a business rewarding what fans and sponsors actually value.

Legacy Media types are calling this Alex Karp interview a “crash-out” so that’s your first clue that he is actually saying something extremely insightful. He is articulating what real “AI safety” looks like in the enterprise. Not abstract alignment research or certification by a government-run DMV for AI. Real AI safety for businesses is the ability to control their own data, model weights, and compute — so a frontier lab can’t hoover up their proprietary knowledge and turn it into their next product. As Karp explains, technical customers want “control over their compute, their models, their data stack, and their alpha. They want to know they own the means of production, and it’s not being transferred to someone else.” Don’t think that can happen? Just look at Figma. According to The Information, Anthropic “blindsided” its then-business partner with the launch of Claude Design. Figma’s founder said Anthropic had not been “consistently honest” with them. Anthropic’s chief product officer had even served on Figma’s board until three days before the launch of Claude Design. Figma’s stock has fallen sharply this year while Anthropic’s valuation has surged. This isn’t an isolated example. Anthropic has launched Claude Science, Claude Security, Claude Legal, and of course Claude Code — each expanding into categories previously served by companies building on top of their models. The pattern is consistent: watch where value is being created, then move in directly. Dominate the model layer, then use that position to capture the most lucrative verticals. Dario has argued that open source models powerful enough to compete with Anthropic are “dangerous.” But dangerous to whom? Not to enterprises that want to retain control over their data and workflows. Dangerous to a business model that benefits from customers having few real alternatives at the model layer. As Karp exposes, true enterprise safety isn’t trusting that a lab’s future roadmap won’t include your business. It’s retaining the ability to choose — at the model layer — who gets to see and use your alpha.

A ameaça à soberania brasileira não vem dos EUA reconhecer a realidade. A ameaça à soberania brasileira vem de facções criminosas que controlam territórios, impõem regras paralelas, aterrorizam populações civis, corrompem agentes públicos, lavam bilhões, traficam drogas e armas através de fronteiras e projetam sua atuação para além do Brasil. Soberania é a capacidade efetiva do Estado de controlar seu território, proteger sua população e impedir que organizações criminosas substituam o poder público. O argumento de que PCC e CV não poderiam ser tratados como organizações terroristas porque “não têm bandeira política” é juridicamente estreito e empiricamente ingênuo. Essas organizações talvez não publiquem manifestos ideológicos como grupos revolucionários clássicos. Mas exercem poder político no sentido mais concreto possível porque controlam comunidades, intimidam autoridades, influenciam eleições, paralisam cidades, impõem toque de recolher, ordenam ataques contra agentes públicos e usam violência sistemática contra civis para preservar domínio territorial e econômico. A designação americana não transforma o Brasil em alvo. Ela mira organizações criminosas específicas que representam ameaça transnacional. Também não autoriza automaticamente intervenção militar em território brasileiro. Esse espantalho serve mais para criar pânico político do que para explicar o direito aplicável. O efeito concreto da designação é ampliar ferramentas contra financiamento, logística, facilitadores, lavagem de dinheiro, movimentação internacional, apoio material e redes de suporte. Ou seja onde essas facções são mais vulneráveis. Também é curioso ouvir preocupações abstratas com soberania quando as principais vítimas da perda de soberania são os brasileiros que vivem sob domínio criminoso. Para a mãe que não pode sair de casa porque uma facção decretou toque de recolher, para o comerciante extorquido, para a família atingida por guerra territorial, para o policial assassinado e para a comunidade abandonada à governança criminal, a soberania brasileira já foi violada há muito tempo — não por uma designação americana, mas pelo poder armado das facções. A pergunta correta é por que o Estado brasileiro permitiu que essas organizações crescessem a ponto de se tornarem uma ameaça hemisférica. Se o Brasil tivesse desmantelado sua infraestrutura financeira, contido sua expansão internacional, protegido suas fronteiras, impedido sua infiltração institucional e recuperado os territórios dominados por facções, talvez EUA não tivesse sentido necessidade de agir. Isso não é uma medida anti-Brasil. É uma medida contra o PCC e o Comando Vermelho. O verdadeiro ato pró-Brasil é reconhecer que o povo brasileiro é a primeira e maior vítima dessas organizações e que a cooperação internacional contra elas deve ser bem-vinda, não tratada como ofensa nacional. O Brasil deveria responder não com indignação performática, mas com cooperação, inteligência financeira, extradições, bloqueio de ativos, repressão à lavagem de dinheiro e uma estratégia nacional séria para recuperar territórios dominados pelo crime organizado. Dans mon entourage, une grosse partie de mes amis est sur cette ligne décroissantiste, avec tout le package qui va avec. L'argent c'est mal mais ils en veulent. Il faut moins prendre l'avion mais ils rêvent de voyager partout. Il faut consommer moins mais ils ne renoncent à rien de ce qu'ils aiment vraiment. Et tous ont un point commun : ils sont déprimés. L'un d'eux m'a même confié qu'il était sous antidépresseurs. Ce n'est pas un hasard. C'est mécanique. Quand tu crois que ton désir de vivre, de créer, de t'élever est moralement suspect tu te détruis de l'intérieur. Tu passes ta vie à t'excuser d'exister. Tu vis dans la dissonance permanente entre ce que ton corps veut (plus, mieux, plus loin) et ce que ton idéologie t'ordonne (moins, sobre, immobile). D'où ma théorie : Quand on pense quelque chose de fondamentalement faux décroissance, communisme, extrémisme religieux (de tout ordre) ce n'est qu'une question de temps avant que ça devienne vraiment destructeur. D'abord pour soi. Puis pour les autres. Les mauvaises idées tuent. Lentement chez ceux qui y croient, brutalement chez ceux qui les subissent. C'est pour ça que la bataille des idées n'est pas un luxe d'intellectuel. C'est la bataille la plus importante de notre époque.
