How does a government remove your guns? With their guns. So, guns are not removed from society at all. All that is removed is the balance of power between citizens and state.

The Mexican cartels are sophisticated criminal enterprises worth billions of dollars. The idea that they would be unarmed but for trafficked guns is insanity. Stop trying to use the Mexican government's consistent corruption and incompetence as an excuse to disarm Americans. Mexico has between 4x and 6x our homicide rate, depending on the year. You would think if American guns were the problem, they'd be much more of a problem here where we can get them without the hassle of going through a black market.

@Momaru81 @MorosKostas Consumer protection law. They make something illegal and then use federal consumer protection law to reach out beyond their borders. Congress needs to stop this like they did for product safety law in the 1970s.

As Democrats are claiming the Trump administration is tyrannical and suddenly praising the Second Amendment, they are also planning a mass confiscation of common magazines in Virginia, in addition to a number of other draconian gun control laws. The Supreme Court needs to immediately grant cert in hardware cases.

Virgnia's SB 749 has been amended to, in part, remove the grandfather clause for current magazine owners. Keeping any mag that can hold more than ten rounds would be Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in prison.

It's now confirmed. The suspect being charged with firing shots at an ABC affiliate office is a gun control supporter. And incredibly, they let him out on bail.

Can I tell you guys a story? I am a survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting. Most horrific day of my life. I was right outside the building when he started shooting. I was told to run across an open field to safety by panicked campus police. I remember running in a zig zag pattern because I believed the shooter was outside. I barricaded behind a campus police vehicle for hours in the snow, watching the SWAT team arrive then the students jumping from windows holding white sheets of paper above their heads to indicate they were not a threat. Later that night, my friend from high school was among those who called to make sure I was safe. I know I talked to a bunch of people that night but his call is the only one I remember. He said to me, “Sarah, this is why you need to carry. Everyone needs to carry.” I hung up on him. I was so angry. I HATED that he said that to me. I blamed the gun. I blamed the gun for years. Was this what tipped me over the edge to identify as a Democrat for the time that I did?? Maybe. I can’t say for sure. I was trending that way a bit before this because I was young and wanted everyone to “have equal rights.” But I held on to what he said and believed that was the problem. We needed more gun control not more guns. I believed this for a long time, but the more and more I thought about it, the more and more I struggled with details about it. If we have more gun control then what does that mean about cops? We can’t have cops armed and citizens not armed. We also can’t have cops not armed, because there are plenty of citizens illegally armed (and we all know that won’t go away…criminals are gonna criminal). Then I thought about the details of that day. I didn’t know it at the time of course, but the Virginia Tech shooter targeted classrooms. He was not outside. He was able to get to so many classrooms and do the level of damage he did because he chained the doors shut. Everyone in that building was unarmed. Sitting ducks for evil to prey on. The police were not able to get there fast enough to neutralize the threat because he knew to lock them out. 32 people lost their lives that day. Countless others were injured, had to have bullets removed, and even some have to live with the bullets still in them to this day. How much of this would not have happened if one of those teachers carried?? We can’t ever know, obviously, but it surely seems like the evil killing spree would have been cut much shorter. The shooting happened April 16, 2007. One month before my graduation. It has been a long and interesting road to where I am now. Many people in my life probably don’t recognize the person I am today. In this time I have come to realize that I blamed the gun because I was afraid. I was afraid of the gun. The first time I went to a shooting range I was shaking so bad I couldn’t even write my simple five letter name on the forms and I almost threw up in the waiting area. Now I am a second amendment advocate. I do not advocate for violence. It is never the answer. But evil exists and it is up to us to protect ourselves. In fact, one of the first things you learn in a gun safety class is that you never want to pull out the gun unless you absolutely have to. Your wallet, watch, jewelry, phone, car, whatever are not worth taking someone’s life. I want to make that clear. I also want to make it clear that if you are not comfortable around guns or in using one, then make that a top priority now. Start small. Get comfortable. Get trained. This is especially directed at women! If you aren’t comfortable with a gun please consider other options for personal safety. I am a runner. I have MACE and even a taser that I carry whenever I’m running alone. I’ve heard too many stories. This is in no way advocating for violence. What it is though is advocating for personal safety. It is us against evil and no one is coming to save us. It is your right to protect yourself and your family. ❤️

I subscribed to newspapers .com, which was a mistake. I am totally going to nerd out on this. Not a bad deal for $8 for a month (we'll see if I renew or not). I did so because I wanted to read an 1888 article in the San Francisco chronicle on pocket pistols, and then-popular methods of carrying them. I learned of the article through USCCA's magazine, which referenced it. I couldn't find it anywhere online. This first article is quite the find, and speaks to a far more expansive culture of concealed carry in San Francisco (!!!) than I knew existed. "Ask almost any man to show you his pistol, and he will lift the tail of his coat and dive into his hip pocket for the weapon. Every pair of trousers has a hip pocket, and so universal is the practice of carrying a weapon that it is known even to tailors as the pistol pocket."

Your website literally praises Minnesota for its recent gun control enactments, giving it a "B." They did "do something," but your ideas generally just don't work. We also know nothing about the suspect yet.

Literally just now, I got notified Giffords filed an amicus brief in support of California's total ban on suppressors (even with NFA registration and taxation). Their constant "we just want background checks" argument, like Chris states below, is a lie. They are bad faith hacks who pretend to be moderates when trying to defend gun laws being loosened in red states or federally, but if you want to know what they really believe, look at what they support in their lapdog states like California.

So the killer used the government's guns to go kill innocent people at a place where the government doesn't let them carry guns. Tell me again about how gun control stops this.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise... This document was previously classified as "SECRET//NOFORN" and given that it's now been declassified by the OCA (Tulsi), it's up for discussion. Opinions follow. Notably, "Pillar 4" describes the efforts to 'Confront Long-Term Contributors to Domestic Terrorism'. Action 4.1.1a specifically states that a goal was to rein in the proliferation of "ghost guns". Further, it goes on to argue for banning "assault weapons" (no) and "high-capacity magazines" (whatever those are). So, effectively, the by-definition Secret Government plan to 'Combat Domestic Terrorism' included Gun Control over the long term which would have removed the rights of millions and millions of Americans in pursuit of a fallacy. Who would that have impacted more? My friends and I (and millions of other people) or a Domestic Terrorist? Would that domestic terrorist have cared? It is not, and I will emphasize NOT, my problem what someone else MAY do with something. You will not be removing my right to have something based on someone else's perceived future action. Here's MY underlying issue (YMMV). They CLASSIFIED (not the action itself which was FOUO and already overt, but the overall classification of the document and action 4.1.1a's association with the plan) an intent to take firearms away from people. Not specifically from domestic terrorists and in certain circumstances, but as "long-term contributors to domestic terrorism". That means across the board because (according to this document), it's considered a contributor to domestic terrorism to own those things. Deeper than the action itself, it was basically considered an underlying predictor for domestic terror; owning any of those things. Owning each of those things is a Constitutionally protected and affirmed right. Each of them.
