9th Grade Parents: Your number one concern for your freshman athlete isn’t if they play varsity or not, it’s if they PLAY! Minutes on freshman or JV are much more important than sitting on a varsity bench as a freshman. Is it about their development or ego?
@CoachWolfson More importantly are they improving in 4, 8, and 12 week intervals to meet the talent floor of the level they are on and they level they are going to
@CoachWolfson Depends on the size of the school and program to an extent. If you attend a school with a strong program in your sport, unless you are a true standout freshman (very small % of players), you shouldn’t get anywhere near varsity.
So many issues. There is a huge difference between being a 5,6,7,8 option on varsity and a 1,2 option on JV or lower. Maturity difference is huge between 9th grade boys and above, both physically and mentally. Best quote is everyone wants to microwave them when they are better off being slow cooked
@CoachWolfson Just have the athlete repeat 8th grade once or twice so you can make sure they play varsity. 🤷🏻♂️
@CoachWolfson Agreed 💯Coach. I’ll even take it a step further. If it’s me, unless you’re Aaron Judge, I would never take a freshman on varsity.
@CoachWolfson My son was told he wasn’t making the varsity as a freshman. They wanted him to pitch not ride the pines. Coach took us aside and told us he would be drafted by MLB before he graduated and he was.
@CoachWolfson Classroom development is just as big as making any team.
@CoachWolfson Games >>Practice. Also important to learn how to dominate if the player has that level of talent
