RE: "Tails is 8", an essay. None of these characters have ages anymore since ages were removed in 2022. An 8 year old fox would be an adult and a 15 year old hedgehog would be elderly and exceptionally long-lived. Cream was '6 years old' and could drive a car. Amy was 8 until she wasn't (Adventure) and Shadow is either 2-4 years old or 52-54 years old, yet the fandom treats him as equivalent to Sonic. The aging of Sonic anthropomorphic animal species has always been something dubious and the modern fandom's attitude to treat the ages as equivalent to literal human ages is not something that was always prevalent or dominant.within the fandom. These ages have always been interpreted differently. Personally, given that '8 year olds' in Sonic's world could own property, drive cars, and own businesses, I never really saw an '8 year old' mobian or anthropomorphic animal person to be a minor in my interpretation of the series when I was younger and the ages existed. But now the ages don't exist so I don't really care about this point. I think it is heavily reductive to treat fictional furry species as if they must follow human maturity standards or aging conventions. This would be like treating every robot or AI character like their literal age in human years. By this logic, Sage would be 0 years old in Frontiers. Do you not see the issue here? Furry media has historically always played around with the idea of furry characters maturing at faster rates than humans. See twokinds and the Keidran. Sonic is a scifi series at heart with elements of fantasy and cyberpunk across its vast history. All of these genres play with alternative maturity to human ages. These characters are timeless fantasy icons that have existed for decades. Trying to ascribe a precise age label to all depictions and to limit creativity of others is not productive. Depict them as whatever ages you wish in your fan content if it helps the story that you are trying to tell, but there is no reason to play the 'X character is Y age' game when such rules are hypocritically applied and ignore contrary evidence to suggest an incredibly biased picture that presumes a truism (funny animal ages are equivalent of human ages) which the games themselves never express.

He didn't. He censored to prevent harassment, he wanted a trans woman to be harassed. There is no other reading of this.

@VioletNovaGalxy @AppleSlipper Sonic and Tails relationship in something like Tailstube would already be toxic at best and abusive at worst if they really do have significant age gap. It's not okay to rely on young children to do the chores of an adult... Unless... Sonic and Tails are only a few years apart?

The Sonic parentification abuse aspect of Tails is baked into many interpretations of Sonic and Tails relationship in many canons if their age gap is significant I'd rather just have Sonic and Tails dynamics be wholesome by making them similar in age in interpretation

To start with: - Archie and AoSTH can be disregarded since neither are canon. - This post ignores the dangers in age gap relationships between men and women that led to the me too movement and callout of abusive men by largely younger women who were taken advantage by them. Trivializing their trauma and abuse as something easy to brush off. It ignores societal patriarchy and how same sex relationships have less of a power imbalance than heterosexual ones. - This post ignores any time that Tails wears the pants in his relationship with Sonic. Such as Lost World, Tailstube, Colors, etc to paint a Tails that is fully dependent on Sonic, unable to stick up for himself and ignores that Tails cooks and cleans for Sonic as well as houses him. - The fact Tails cooks and cleans for Sonic as well as houses him makes it impossible for Sonic and Tails to have a father-son like bond without it being a type of abuse, parentification. This is not an issue if they're either friends or lovers. It is a serious issue if Sonic is supposed to be Tails' father. - There is only one game where Sonic was ever presented as a 'guardian' of Tails, Sonic Battle. A game which has had its bizarre characterizations such as anorexic Amy discarded by future titles. - This post implies that any found family relationship becoming romantic would be abusive, this is an absurd argument and would imply ships like Sonally in SatAM are abusive since they grew up together under the same guardian (Rosie). I don't believe you posted this in good faith at all. This does not invite discussion whatsoever and it's an incredibly selective argument that ignores elements that are inconvenient to push a headcanon that runs contrary to official material.

@AppleSlipper Disliking SonTails is not fascist or homophobic. It is incredibly homophobic to aggressively attack people for shipping it though when the community is majority queer.

I'm a SatAM Sonic glazer, not for 90s nostalgia or 'trad' reasons, but because we need real anti fascist media right now. In rising authoritarianism, youth deserve punks like scrappy freedom fighter dystopian Sonic & crew against corrupt occupiers.
