I was disappointed listening to Carey’s broadcast of the game last night. I listened to Chip only because I wanted to see how he handled it. He was not gracious. He was not unbiased. He was over the top. He relished his Cards beating up on the Braves…..until the game got close.

I finished reading again “The Boys Of Summer” by Roger Kahn. A great read! But unlike 45 years ago in my 20’s, I now hardly had to use a dictionary at all. A great Dodger team to be sure; but these were some of the most interesting & diverse group of men to come together.

Author Ed Linn noted that “sooner or later, society beats down the man of muscle and sweat.” While no one is immune from the affects of the virus, it appears from what I have read as to where and who the virus devastates most fiercely; the virus & society have much in common.

Ranking “actions” that AFFECT the outcome of games: 1) throw a game-1919 WS; 2) steroids-Bonds et al; 3) technology to steal signs-Astros, others? 4) using altered bats & balls; 5) betting on your team TO WIN-Rose. If #5 is out of HOF consideration, shouldn’t 1-4 be as well?

Since Coach Shildt’s post game tirade after game 5 of the NLDS about no one f**king with the Cards, the Cards have no runs and 1 hit in the last 13 innings against the Nats. It’s early, but Coach Shildt might want to consider a different approach to motivation.

We don’t need to retaliate for Acuna. We don’t need the benches to empty and someone to get hurt. There is no way we look like anything but sore losers when you hit someone down 13 to 1. End this like the classy team we are—not like the ‘85 Cards in game 7 of the World Series.

The Cards take 2 of 3 from the always imposing Nationals with Strasburg, Corbin and Scherzer on the mound; at the same time the Reds take 2 of 3 from the red hot Cubs. Who would have thought the Cards would actually gain ground over the past 3 days. The next 10 games will be fun!

The Braves need to win two games and close this out. It simply is not as much fun to back into the Playoffs like the Braves did in 1982 when Joe Morgan’s homerun for the Giants beat the Dodgers and put the Braves in the Playoffs. We need to win two games before the Nats lose 2.

That is as unproductive an out from Reilly as you will see.

#HighHeat. Chris Russo’s program today discusses how there are too many home runs in the game today. In the Braves/Phils game there were 5 home runs in 4 innings accounting for all 9 runs. If Maddog were an attorney, he could fairly say “prosecution rests”. His case is proven.

I agree full heartedly with @maddog” Russo. There are too many home runs being hit this year. A home run should be as unexpected as it is exciting. Now, it is simply routine. No home runs in the game you’re watching? Wait. Some light hitting platoon player will soon fix that.
