COLUMN: Greg Sankey questioned the competitiveness of small-conference AQ’s. Then the SEC flopped and lost to AQ’s Oakland and Yale. Because that’s March Madness. Expansion talk is about greed and nothing more. theathletic.com/5362729/2024/0… theathletic.com/5362729/2024/0…
It was the SEC that kicked off the recent realignment. It was the SEC (and Big Ten) that demanded uneven CFP money and potentially more CFP auto-bids. Next change the NCAAT? Fans are getting tired of it. So too, apparently, were the basketball gods. theathletic.com/5362729/2024/0…
@ChrisVannini We can have both expansion and Cinderellas at the same time. Go back 39 years, people were saying the same. Some expand, it’ll make it less worthwhile with teams who don’t deserve it. Now? Everyone thinks it’s perfect going from 32 to 64 to 68 teams. Just keep mid-major AQs.
@GregSankey contrived : elitist: Guilded Age : Autocratic:money & power grab: attempt : sorry the #SEC are in poor Southern States: that have gutted their poor and middle classes : failed economic plans & have no money on a Macro Scale : to compete;so now you have to cheat differently because it NIL …
@ChrisVannini Sankey is everything that is wrong with college athletics. Greed pretty much sums it up
@ChrisVannini Can we all quit listening to @GregSankey and his selfish agenda?
@ChrisVannini Amazing that the leader of such a tradition-rich conference is actively trying to destroy one of sport’s greatest traditions. Greed sucks.
@ChrisVannini Would love Fran Frashilla’s proposal. 32 auto, 24 at-large, 16 teams in play-in.. Auto qualifiers, not in play-in
@ChrisVannini Hey, but let's give them more guaranteed spots.
