After I gave a presentation the other day, one woman was asking me some questions and began crying about her son with treatment-resistant, serious mental illness. She said she felt like no one else in the room understands what she's going through. I asked people in the audience to raise their hands if they know someone in their personal lives (NOT through work) that is affected by treatment-resistant mental illness. Every hand in the room went up. We have a crisis.
@ChrisPalmerMD I mean, that’s what the pharmaceutical industry wants, isn’t it?
@ChrisPalmerMD We're in the midst of a social crisis.
@ChrisPalmerMD @Simon8Mayne That was at our event. She speaks for so many. She keeos us updated. Nothing has changed at that level. Just like it never did for our inspiration, Jeff. The MH system is powerful and these folks (many times indigent) ARE helpless. I hope people understand how alone they feel.
Does the treatment include physical conditioning? Many of my Marine brothers who suffer from serious MH issues found that strength training extremely reduced severity of the symptoms. Regular vigorous exercise should be included in the treatment plan. But then the discussion is about suggesting vs mandating such plans
In all the years I have (with his permission) been sharing our son's story, there has not been a single time that the person I was sharing with did not offer a story of suffering from mental illness in their own family or close circle of friends. It's time to change the paradigm.
@ChrisPalmerMD “Treatment resistant”, aka allopathic, bandaid pharma drugs to superficially “control” or “suppress” behavioral symptoms w/ no understand of underlying causation & no ability to address those issues.
@ChrisPalmerMD Such a sad reality in today society. My goal as a health coach is to provide high quality education to people who feel hopeless and lost in their journeys.
@ChrisPalmerMD The crisis that absolutely no one in power wants to acknowledge and address.
