The politics of defence in a dangerous world -- a few thoughts here bbc.com/news/uk-688852…
@ChrisMasonBBC Chris, can we stop all the 'how would Labour fund this' nonsense when it's not at all clear how the Tories would fund it either, given they also want to abolish National Insurance too?
@ChrisMasonBBC A 'dangerous world' is also a profitable world. The media helps keep the whole cycle going - that's what it's for.
@ChrisMasonBBC Outflanking Labour by putting defence spending back to 2.5% - which it was, under Labour, in 2009. The Tories cut it along with everything else during austerity.
@ChrisMasonBBC I just don't know who I'm supposed to be enemies with. Russians? They did poison Salisbury with nerve agents yet many Tory MPs have accepted ££ from them and the ex Foreign Secretary partied with the son of a KGB officer then made him a peer as PM. Chinese? Spies with Tory links.
@ChrisMasonBBC Just a quick question Chris. How does it work? Do the government pay half your salary and the BBC the rest or what? Do NATO chip in? #toryshill
@ChrisMasonBBC The dangers in your world are either imagined and/or verifiably untrue. Russia seeks security and offered many off ranks from Minsk to Ankara. China wants to sell stuff and will not accept the US deciding policy for it. Real dangers are living in financialised economies in West.
@ChrisMasonBBC No magic money tree,.?well if your hated around the world best having a good defence budget.
