As part of our ongoing celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, students from Duchesne, Mercy and Marian watched a webinar, Women in Journalism, that featured several alumnae panelists!
It's an honor to be your Vice President.
Today is a historic day with the inauguration of Kamala Harris, the first woman, Black woman and South Asian woman to be Vice President of the United States. As a cohort of three all girls’ schools, it is monumental to witness such an important day in our history.
Thanks for inviting me to participate! The students prepared great questions!
I had a great time participating in this event! What a thrill to represent @duchesneacademy and share my path in the political field.

As part of our ongoing celebration of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, students from Marian, Mercy and Duchesne participated in a Women in Politics panel webinar that featured women from Omaha who were asked to speak about their experiences.
We're so excited for this panel discussion with some great women in politics! The panel will be shown to @duchesneacademy, @OmahaMarian and @MercyHighSchool students as a part of our yearlong celebration of the ratification of the 19th Amendment!
On #WomensEqualityDay today, stick some history on your selfie and mark the 100th anniversary of the #19thAmendment. Wear the #19SuffrageStories stickers created by @USNatArchives @librarycongress and @smithsonian and share them in your Instagram stories!
Our day of reflection about the women’s suffrage movement is underway. Students are moderating a panel discussion with our History & Social Studies Dept. about the movement then and now. #19thAmendment #womenssuffrage
One hundred years ago today, the 19th Amendment became law. Putting a sign like this in your window showed anyone who walked by that a woman there had exercised her right under the 19th Amendment and registered to vote. It’s in our @amhistorymuseum collection. #19SuffrageStories
Today we celebrate our right to vote. The 19th amendment was ratified on this day 100 years ago and while 1920 feels long ago, we are only a few generations removed from then. Duchesne was open for 39 years before its students and teachers were allowed to vote.
The #19thAmendment said women could not be excluded from the polls because of their sex, but it did not guarantee the ballot. Citizenship laws, poll taxes, threats and violence barred African American, Latina, Native American, Asian American, immigrant, and poor women.
In 1962, Fannie Lou Hamer was one of 18 African Americans who traveled 26 miles to register to vote at a Mississippi courthouse. The 19th Amendment had not removed racist Jim Crow laws, and the group was told they'd need to take a literacy test. #19SuffrageStories

Susan B. Anthony and 14 other women were arrested for voting in an 1872 election in Rochester, New York. Anthony was convicted and sentenced to pay a $100 fine and court costs, which she never paid. The indictment is in @USNatArchives. #19SuffrageStories
This month marks 100 years since the 19th Amendment became law. With @USNatArchives and @librarycongress, we're counting down #19SuffrageStories of women who worked for the vote—before and after 1920—through the Aug. 26 anniversary. #BecauseOfHerStory s.si.edu/2Dg3n3p
