We need to be the bridge for students to gain what they need in and outside of school no matter where it may be from!

@JuvenalSalazar7 @WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Absolutely the peer part! Sometimes perspective is needed, and it is harder to reflect on yourself because we are so inclined to agree with what we believe is correct! Cannot emphasize this enough!

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 We work together by practicing empath and searching for a common goal. Teamwork is created by desiring the same outcomes and realizing that we work better as a whole rather than disparate parts. We build culture as a byproduct of the code we naturally develop.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Empathy means finding a point of relation between yourself and the other person. Sympathy is feeling bad for someone rather than feeling bad with someone. You find a point of connection, an experience that's similar- and integrating the emotions attached to those experiences.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 An alternative to a timed math test is giving students to collaboratively work on higher-level math problems. This would include synthesizing prior math and using skills they've learned from "number talks." Getting students to work on teams may help gain deeper understandings.

@JacquelineKMed1 @WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Absolutely! As these students communicate and learn through that communication, I think they also inherently gain a deeper understanding of prior math concepts they were taught.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Giving students the opportunity to participate in number talks helps students learn from each other, troubleshoot, and peer edit. Students also learn by teaching each other. It creates a deeper understanding as students interact and engage with materials and math concepts.

@NicolasOrdaz3 @WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 @joboaler It's interesting to have grown up with maybe one/two methods being taught (to me) to get to an answer when there may be multiple ways to get to the same answer. I think number sense is much more beneficial to students long term.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 The memorization of math facts is unnecessary & damaging because it dismisses the number sense and deeper thinking that would benefit students long term. Students would benefit applying math skills in a more relevant/meaningful way, finding new ways to get the same answers.
