Diversity matters in newsrooms. But Alden Global Capital & its attorney, Marshall Anstandig, won’t make it a priority. We’re working to bargain a contract that fosters diversity, but they have fought hard to block and stall on many efforts we’ve made to make our newsroom better.
What does the Tribune’s newsroom look like? Not Chicago. Our city’s residents are 29% Black and& 29% Latino, but the Chicago Tribune Guild’s members are 11% Black, 8% Latino and 70% White. The paper doesn't look like Chicago either. So what does that mean for the city?
@CTGuild All of your white members should simply quit the tribune, and their dreams will be fulfilled! They should let go of their white privilege and leave!
@CTGuild @danwiederer I see the Trib's (former?)Bear's beat reporter @danwiederer retweeted this. I respect this white man's willingness to step aside and turn over this job to a POC. Remember, the change you want to see in this world begins with YOU.
@CTGuild Diversity of appearance doesn’t make a newsroom better. Talent does. Time to grow up.
@CTGuild It’s pretty simple really. Why don’t enough of you White unionized members members quit to even it out? Just quit already.
@CTGuild You have the thinnest paper in the world and literally have the worst sports coverage. You’ve abandoned high school sports all together. I switched to CST if only for the sports.
