Erectile dysfunction and heart health ❤️ A new study by Emil Durukan and colleagues from both @CTCPR_ and Afdeling for Urinvejssygdomme, published in the Journal Sexual Medicine, examined cardiac function in 398 men with erectile dysfunction. Higher BMI, diastolic blood pressure and HbA1c were associated with LV systolic dysfunction, while BMI and dyslipidemia were associated with LV diastolic dysfunction. The findings highlight the close link between sexual and cardiovascular health and the importance of cardiometabolic risk assessment in men with ED. 🔥Can sauna bathing improve exercise capacity in HFpEF? In the SAUNA-HFpEF pilot study, published in the European Journal of Heart Failure, first author @TarekBekfaniMD and colleagues from @CTCPR_ and University Hospital Magdeburg found that 10 weeks of supervised sauna bathing improved peak VO₂, 6MWT, quadriceps strength, diastolic function, body composition & QoL. Influenza vaccination in heart failure💉❤️ A recent review by Allahdad Khan and collaborators from @CTCPR_ , published in Heart Failure Reviews, highlights evidence linking influenza vaccination with lower risks of mortality, heart failure hospitalizations, and major cardiovascular events. Despite clear recommendations, vaccination uptake remains suboptimal. GALFLU: bringing pragmatic trials into routine vaccination programmes 💉 The methods and operational framework article by Narmeen Mallah and collaborators from @CTCPR_ , has been published in Vaccine, and describes how GALFLU embeds individual randomization and digital health registries into routine influenza vaccination in Galicia. The study provides a practical blueprint for conducting large-scale, real-world vaccine effectiveness trials within existing public health systems. 🫀 Not all MRAs are created equal? A network meta-analysis by Morvarid Taebi and @pfallahtafti, made with collaborators from @CTCPR_, has been published in Heart Failure Reviews. In this meta-analysis of 22 studies including 54,964 patients, they compared MRAs for prevention of adverse cardiovascular events. 🔹 Eplerenone ranked highest overall 🔹 Spironolactone showed strong effects across HF populations 🔹 Finerenone may benefit selected groups These findings support personalized MRA selection and highlight the need for direct head-to-head trials. Higher aldosterone-renin ratio linked to AF and stroke risk 🫀 A new study by @matslassen and colleagues from @BrighamWomens, @harvardmed and @CTCPR_, published in @JAMACardio, followed 3,477 older adults without cardiovascular disease for 9 years. The researchers found that a higher aldosterone-renin ratio (ARR) was independently associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation and ischemic stroke. Take-home message: These findings support the concept of a broader spectrum of aldosteronism and highlight the aldosterone pathway as a potential target for cardiovascular prevention. 🔍Beyond ejection fraction: A new window into heart failure prognosis Recent study by Burcu Tas Özbek and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in @BMJ_Open. In 822 patients with HFrEF, both left atrial reservoir strain and left atrial contractile strain were independently associated with all-cause mortality and added prognostic value beyond established risk markers. The left atrium may be telling us more about heart failure prognosis than we previously thought.
