Today I was alerted to another disturbing incident involving SHA. A patient, Lucy Wanjiru, went to a public Hospital expecting to use SHA. Her details were entered, and the system said she was already admitted to another hospital. Yet she has never been there. She hasn't been sick recently. (evidence on left pic) And this isn’t the first time I’m hearing this. In North Eastern and other parts of Kenya, there are people whose IDs show they had surgeries under SHA and admissions that never happened. In some cases, people are finding out that their IDs show they underwent procedures that in reality never happened. This is how public health funds are being stolen. Afya Sacco Officials Arraigned Over KSh 40M Fraud and Proceeds of Crime Three former Afya Sacco officials have been charged in Nairobi over an alleged KSh 40 million fraud scheme involving fictitious deposits and withdrawals through FOSA accounts. The accused face multiple charges, including conspiracy to defraud, stealing by servant, theft, and acquisition of proceeds of crime, with prosecutors alleging the scheme ran between 2021 and 2025 and resulted in major financial loss to the Sacco.

Afya Sacco members cry foul after losing billions and being denied access to their savings. Thousands of Afya Sacco members could have lost up to Ksh2 billion through alleged theft and mismanagement. The members are now demanding answers from the management and have given the organization a seven-day ultimatum to respond or face public protests. Their frustrations have grown, especially after numerous attempts to seek clarity about the Sacco’s financial state were met with silence or evasive answers from top officials. Many members have pointed fingers at the chairman, senior managers, and accountants, accusing them of stealing and misusing their money. They claim that the theft and siphoning of funds have reached shocking levels. The members are also angry at the Ministry of Cooperatives, under Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, accusing it of ignoring their repeated calls for help. According to the members, they have approached the Ministry and the Sacco Society Regulatory Authority several times, hoping for intervention, but no action has been taken. They now say they have no other option but to protest and expose what they call injustice and financial abuse. The situation has worsened with some members, especially those who are sick or retired, unable to access their savings despite urgent need. Some have complained that the management is hiding behind excuses, telling stories of sick people being unable to withdraw deposits but offering no solution. Others who simply want to leave the Sacco or withdraw funds for personal reasons say they are being blocked or delayed without cause, despite a clear policy allowing withdrawals within 60 working days. Members also claim that the leadership has illegally stopped people from withdrawing their shares in the form of salary, which they say is against the Constitution. They argue that their rights are being denied even though they have saved millions. Many are now struggling to meet medical or daily needs. To make things worse, dividends for the year 2024 have not been paid, another violation of Sacco regulations and the Cooperatives Act. Afya Sacco, which mostly serves healthcare workers, now faces serious accusations of corruption and poor governance. Members have raised alarm over blocked audits, suspicious money transfers, and a general lack of transparency. The scandal comes just months after a similar case at KUSCCO, where billions were reported lost through mismanagement and illegal dealings. That case exposed weaknesses in oversight and trust in cooperative institutions. Now Afya Sacco risks the same fate, with angry members demanding accountability before it's too late.

The word around is that the former chair is behind the inquiry and they want to recommend removal of the whole board to cover up her deeds.

Delegates are worried as the commissioner may want to avert a forensic audit ordered by the supreme organ which is the delegates meeting. Is commissioner trying to cover up mismanagement of the former chair that brought the sacco to its knees.

Afya sacco had alot of governace issues and financial challenges that are historica. From 2022 to 2023 and early 2024 things got worse. During the said duration, some delegates visited the commissioner of cooperative development to seek solutions on how to revive the sacco
