The Women’s (Amendment) Bill 2024 has yet to pass. We must continue our efforts to ensure its failure. We stand in solidarity with all survivors and CSOs in the fight against FGM, a harmful practice affecting women and girls.

The Supreme Islamic Council released a Fatwa on FGM/C justifying the practice on religious basis & promoting the repeal of FGM laws; See Statement from The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on #FGM at the 57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
#DYK more than 7 in 10 women age 15-49 in The Gambia have undergone FGM/C. The most common type of practice in the Gambia is FGM Type 3, which involves the removal of part or all of the external genitalia and #stitching of the vaginal opening, leaving a very small opening.
