Today’s 11km Random Jogging Thoughts on Fatherhood. 1. PATIENCE… I used to think parenting would be similar to how I grew up, just being told what to do and we did it… “go to bed” and we went. Today most things are negotiations that require patience. 2. Being a father has made me APPRECIATE MY PARENTS MORE… it’s only thru doing the work myself that I have truly appreciated what kind of work they had to do. 3. WORRY… you worry a lot what they will grow up to be and become. 4. JOY… the joy of seeing them grow up from one stage to the next 5. PAIN of seeing them struggle to confront challenges in life - peer pressure, validation, competing, and there is no shortcut, they have to go thru it themselves. 6. I think the TWO PARENT ADVANTAGE is real and taken for granted, I can’t imagine single parenting and hats off to single parents. 7. There is no school for fatherhood / parenting… YOU LEARN ON THE JOB AND THERE IS NO RESIT… you need to get it right. 8. EACH STAGE of parenting IS DIFFERENT and requires NEW SKILLS…looking fwd to how being a father to an adult will be like. 9. SIMPLICITY / HUMILITY… no matter your status, achievements, struggles out there, at home you are just a father, everything else remains at the door. Sometimes they seem to wonder why anyone would take you seriously. …what are some of you fatherhood thoughts? Happy Father’s Day!
