Just thinking aloud. No claims made. This is a Time Magazine Cover from 2011. I reposted @RahulSeeker's tweet yesterday. I have not been able to stop thinking about this cover. 15 years ago, the world was watching two countries and genuinely could not decide which one would lead the future. One of them does now. The other has spent the last decade and a half fighting over whose god is bigger. I am writing this as a common citizen who grew up in this country, who continues to believe in what it is capable of, and who finds it genuinely dificult to explain the drastic economic downturn in these past years through poor governance alone. India in 2011 was a country that had grown at consistently high rates for two decades, had a young demographic profile, and was positioned as a genuine superpower in the making. We were leading the IT revolution at a time when the world had just figured out that technology was the new currency of power. An Indian spotted abroad was asked one common question: "Do you work in IT?" It wasn't a stereotype so much as a signal. The world had noticed. It had clocked which direction we were moving in, and it had started to take us seriously. We weren't just a large country anymore. We were a country with momentum. And momentum, in geopolitics, is the most threatening thing of all. And then there was the one thing that makes powerful nations genuinely nervous. India is an independent nuclear power. Not a dependent state. Not a country whose arsenal exists because someone else permitted it. Ours. On our terms. Answering to nobody. A large, young, fast-growing, technologically ambitious, independently nuclear nation with a democratic mandate and a civilisational confidence. That is not a country you want going fully unchecked. Putting on my tin foil hat, here is the thought I cannot entirely shake: that what has happened to India over the last many years is not simply the consequence of bad governance, corruption, or misfortune. (That of course, is a very real issue laughing in our faces every single day) That some portion of it has been engineered, or at minimum exploited, by actors with a strategic interest in ensuring that India never becomes what it was projected to become. There are powers that have done this before. They don't need to invade a country. They just need to find a wound in it and not let it heal - through tools of debt, dependency, tariffs, and narratives shaped by controlled media or manipulated social media algorithms. And then stay out of the way while it consumes itself. "Just keep the wound open", as they say. Mismanagement of a population's growth trajectory, and its basic needs which is this consistent and directional, feels almost scripted. Let me also say - the fractures in Indian society are not new. Religious tension, caste hierarchy, linguistic division: these have existed for centuries. No government manufactured them from scratch. A country whose population has been allowed to be preoccupied with questions of communal identity, whose minorities are economically anxious and politically marginalised, and whose civil society is increasingly reluctant to speak plainly, is a country whose productive capacity is diminished. A nation fighting itself cannot look outward with coherence. They couldn't tame the dragon. So they slowly fed the elephant poisoned food. Enough to keep it from breaking its own shackles. Enough for it to be grateful to be fed. The elephant didn't die. That was never the plan. A dead elephant attracts attention. It is still standing - tall above others, swaying, looking busy, occasionally making noise, hoping to get better, some day. Someone needed only one new superpower to emerge. Not two. Someone did not want a second China. And someone got exactly what they needed.
The road Dr. YSR garu built to reach the airport he built. The PV Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway. Dr. YSR garu understood something others didn't. An airport without a world-class road to reach it… is only half a vision. So in 2005… the same year he broke ground on the airport… he started building the road to connect it to the heart of the city. 11.6 kilometres. Elevated. Signal-free. From Mehdipatnam… straight to Aramghar Junction… the gateway to Shamshabad. India's longest flyover at the time of its opening. Built by @HMDA_Gov at a cost of Rs 570.46 crore. Named after the 9th Prime Minister of India… late Sri PV Narasimha Rao garu… a son of this soil from Karimnagar… the first PM whose mother tongue was Telugu. Two Congress legends. One road. He didn't build the airport and then think about how to reach it. The ORR aligned to the airport. The expressway reaching it. The Metro serving the same corridor. One city built in systems… not in silos. The expressway was ready by September 2009. It was to be inaugurated on October 2… Gandhi Jayanti. But on September 2, 2009… Dr. YSR garu died. The man who conceived this road… who built it alongside the airport it was designed to serve… never saw it open. Forty-seven days later… CM Rosaiah garu inaugurated it. India's longest flyover. Named after a Congress Prime Minister. Built by a Congress Chief Minister. Completed by a Congress Chief Minister. From vision to foundation to inauguration… entirely Congress. The ORR. The Metro. The Airport. The PVNR Expressway. Dr. YSR garu didn't build projects. He built a city. Next up: The ambitious ITIR Project that was a Congress vision that could’ve transformed the city but never saw the light of the day thanks to @BJP4India and @BRSparty → @INCIndia @RahulGandhi @priyankagandhi @kharge @SupriyaShrinate @revanth_anumula @INCTelangana @Bmaheshgoud6666 @MNatarajanINC @RamMohanINC @HydREGuide @Mettusaikumar @MothaRohit @raj_daripally #PVNRExpressway #Hyderabad #CongressMeansProgress 5/n
Even in a bustling metropolis like Chennai, we see a beautiful miracle unfolding every year. Olive Ridley turtles come to Chennai beaches to nest every single year. This season, Chennai became Tamil Nadu’s largest nesting hub, protecting 74,143 eggs. What does it tell us ! The message is clear, wildlife can thrive in cities too, provided conservation is prioritised. This year across Tamil Nadu, 1,986 nests were protected, 2,29,668 eggs were conserved and 1,91,615 hatchlings were released into the sea through 52 hatcheries along the coast. Cuddalore protected 55,348 eggs and Nagapattinam 30,499, making this one of the strongest Olive Ridley conservation seasons in recent years. Most encouragingly, turtle mortality declined sharply from 1,575 last year to 786 this year a reduction of nearly 50 percent. Behind these numbers lies an extraordinary partnership. Forest frontline staff, the Students Sea Turtle Conservation Network, @wii_india, researchers, volunteers, NGOs, the Fisheries Department, Indian Coast Guard, Marine Police and, most importantly, fishing communities worked together to protect these marine visitors. Conservation efforts included the distribution of 2,663 Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs), 172 joint sea patrols, beach monitoring through the Turtle Guardian App, nest protection, clean-up drives and awareness programmes that reached over 23,000 fishermen. Satellite tagging of turtles has also helped us better understand their remarkable journeys. As this nesting season comes to a close, we bid farewell to these ancient travellers. The hatchlings released from our shores will now travel across vast oceans, only to return years later to the very same beaches where they were born. #WorldEnvironmentDay #Turtles #TNForest
Vedant Srivastava - 17 yrs old Took to social media and exposed discrepancies in CBSE's OSM marking system. Nisarga Adhikary- 19 yrs old Hacked CBSE website and informed them (and us) that it is vulnerable and can be hacked. Sarthak Sidhant- 17 yrs old Exposed how CBSE bent rules to award the OSM tender to COEMPT. These 3 kids need to be lauded. They have given us a glimmer of hope. They have shown us, not all is lost. We still have a future to salvage.
In June 1954, two legendary Indians were touring the USSR for entirely different reasons - the brilliant scientist and statistician P.C. Mahalanobis, and the prominent writer and filmmaker K.A. Abbas. Wherever Mahalanobis went, he was amused by the constant, reverent references to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Attending a Sunday church service in Leningrad, he observed, "Some of the women were so overcome to speak of India and Nehru that they began to cry softly - tears came to their eyes in an upsurge of feeling." Meanwhile, in a completely different part of the country, Abbas was touring with his Soviet writer friends. When they stopped in a small town for lunch, one of his comrades raised a glass, "To Nehru-the most important man in the world today." To Abbas's utter surprise, everyone in that small luncheon, including the waiters and waitresses, instantly joined in the toast. That was the sheer popularity and charisma of Jawaharlal Nehru. He didn't need to burn millions hiring PR agencies to stage manage his image like the politicians of today. He left us on this very day in 1964, perhaps broken by the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War but he was a giant of a man. If our democracy still functions even at a fraction of its potential today, it is because his years in office laid the foundational stepping stones. #Nehru Ref : Planning Democracy - Nikhil Menon Pic : The Hindu
Her name was Leila Seth. She was born on October 20 1930 in Lucknow. She grew up during the partition years. She was married at 22 and followed her husband Prem to London while he completed his studies. She was 27 years old and pregnant when she decided to study law. She enrolled at the Inns of Court. In 1958 she topped the bar examination, finishing first among all candidates from England and Wales. A London newspaper ran her photograph with the headline referring to her as “Mother in Law.” She had given birth months before the exam. She was the first Indian woman to top the London Bar exam. She came back to India and built a legal career in Patna for ten years. In 1978 she became the first woman judge of the Delhi High Court. In 1991 she became Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the first woman to hold that position in any High Court in independent India. She served on the 15th Law Commission of India from 1997 to 2000. Her work during that period led directly to the Hindu Succession Amendment Act of 2005, which gave Hindu daughters equal rights to ancestral property for the first time in Indian law. After the Nirbhaya gang rape in December 2012 she was appointed to the Justice JS Verma Committee, which recommended the sweeping changes to sexual assault laws that followed. Her son is the novelist Vikram Seth. She died on May 5 2017. She was 86 years old. She had pledged to donate her organs and her family held no funeral. A prayer meeting was held in her honour instead. She topped the bar exam in England while pregnant. She became the first woman Chief Justice of an Indian High Court. She helped give daughters the right to inherit ancestral property. She helped rewrite India’s rape laws. Most Indians know her son’s book. Almost none know her story. Follow for stories India deserves to remember.
Complete mess. #CBSE My daughter finally received the scanned copies of 4 answer sheets and to our shock, page number 22 is missing from one of the documents. On top of that, marks have not been awarded for several answers that exactly match the official answer key. And this isn’t limited to just one paper the same issue appears across multiple subjects. Instead of focusing on competitive exams and college admissions, students are being forced to run from pillar to post just to understand why correct answers were ignored or pages went missing. Do the authorities even understand what 30-35 marks can mean for a Class 12 student whose entire future and admission process depends on these scores? This is not a small administrative lapse. This is playing with the careers, mental health and future of thousands of students. Shame on a system that continues to fail students. And shame on those at the helm who continue to remain silent while young lives are pushed into anxiety and uncertainty. The system has failed us once again. Alas. #CBSE @cbseindia29 @AllCBSENews @cbse_guide @dpradhanbjp @PMOIndia
Finally, we received the answer sheets and the student is short by 30 marks. #CBSE Do you understand what that means for a Class 12 student whose entire college admission process depends on these scores? You experimented with their future while students and parents were left
Insanidade pura.
Even by the standards of a country ranking 157 of 180 nations in the World Press Freedom Index, the reaction of the authorities to the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ is beyond extraordinary. The public response to that imaginative prank should have signalled to them a deep discontent, even distress, among young people. Instead, as The Indian Express reported, it was framed as jeopardising the country’s ‘national security’ and ‘posing a threat to the sovereignty of India.’ Decades ago, the Malaysian lawyer and poet Cecil Rajendra wrote this brilliant poem that captures the idiocy of it better than any pompous editorialising could (not that our ‘mainstream’ media would dare do even that much).

Those curious about my arrest; Read it carefully & share it widely; 1. I Unearthed a IT dept scam of more than 2000 cr during demonetisation in OCT 2020 & reported to FM & PM. 2. Many jewellers were involved in it from Surat & Ahmedabad. 3. IT dept raided me with vengeance to shut me & found nothing. 4. IT filed a police case in my father’s publication, though I had nothing to do with it. I wasn’t a director till 2019. 5. Police arrested me on IT case just to enable ED to file a PMLA case that would enable them to keep me in custody, as police had no case. 6. As police found nothing it added a fake forgery section later. 7. ED arrested me from prison in a case, of ₹ 3750 a day of excess advertisement from govt. 8. High Court released me on bail immediately & the case is pending for quashing. 9. Recently IT tribunal quashed illegal action reducing the liability to ZERO. 10. Police can’t file charges. ED case is pending for discharge in courts. 11. Left BJP in 2022, as its Gujarat President was hand in glove with the perpetrators & failed to protect me from these illegal actions. He was my political opponent from the same constituency. 12. To send a message of resistance to the perpetrators, contested on AAP nomination against Gujarat Home Minister in his constituency (not mine) and proudly secured 2nd place. 13. I neither had any cases before this incident nor after that. 14. I had unblemished career in Income Tax department. Not even a memorandum in my 20 year career. 15. Haven’t quit politics but learnt how to do good politics. Run 2 NGOs since 2004 for poor students & women. 16. Thanks for your patience and reading this long post.
@pvssarma Whenever someone questions you about the forgery and scams during demonetisation, threatens them with legal action, yet never manages to do anything. The truth is, we all know why u you really left the BJP.
My young friend, Mr Nara Lokesh, Minister in Andhra Pradesh should do his math before talking about delimitation (interview to the HINDU) The Opposition parties opposed and defeated the Constitution Amendment Bill because the math showed that the five Southern states will lose representation in the LS in terms of RELATIVE strength (if Art 81 is applied without a change) The gainers will be some of the North Indian states The BJP tried to mask the outcome by increasing the representation in LS of each State by 50%, but that was exposed as an illusion Whether you take the representation of AP in LS at the current level of 25 seats or increase it to 38 seats, if Article 81 is applied without a change, the RELATIVE representation of AP will diminish or reduce I urge Mr Lokesh to please do the math again
