The Burnes return is going to feel light for some, but I think it's pretty reasonable for one year of a starter coming off a season in which he was more solid than elite. Trading Burnes for controllable MLB talent was always the right move over letting him walk in free agency. Was worried the Brewers were going to take the latter route instead. Glad they got a deal done.
@ByJackStern Don’t you think this deal is there for them at the deadline and perhaps there’s a bidding war. This just doesn’t feel like enough, 1-year remaining, or not
@ByJackStern Do you expect Burnes to be only solid in his FA year? He’s going to have a monster year. 🤦♂️
@ByJackStern Talent 😂😂?? They got a pack of gum
@ByJackStern Jack - he was far from elite in 2023 and a terrible Game 1 performance too in a critical playoff game.
Trade needed to happen but they gotta get Mayo or Hjerstad at least. Ortiz isn’t a centerpiece for any offense and at best a regular starter with 10-15 HR per year. Burnes was a CY Young winner. Ur telling me Baltimore would have walked away if we ask for one of them or say no deal. They should have gotten Mayo and another pitcher. Then go sign Bellinger and everyone is excited about your future. Instead there’s a possibility this team doesn’t win 60 games
@ByJackStern I never thought the #Brewers were gonna deal Burnes at the trade deadline so it was either move him now for something in return or let him walk only for a 2025 pick in return. Moving him now made the most sense.
@ByJackStern They don't have enough starting pitching to compete this year. If one follows baseball all that matters is starting pitching.
