Pastia lines, or Pastia's sign, are caused by petechiae in creases of the skin during a scarlet fever infection. These lines are almost inevitably described as red or pink, but as seen in the above photo, may not appear at all red or pink on skin of color. #medt

Chilblains is an inflammation of the vessels in the hands and feet caused by exposure to cold. Swelling of the affected fingers or toes may result (see ring finger in photo), with itchy/sore patches and blisters. The reddening may be subtle, especially on darker skin. #MedTwitter

The scarlet fever rash is historically described as bright red, but on people of color this can clearly be inaccurate; the rash may simply be flesh colored along with the characteristic sandpapery feel and appearance. #Pediatrics #MedTwitter #ScarletFever

Raynaud syndrome causes arteries in the fingers (or toes, nose) to temporarily narrow. This results in reduced blood flow and a dramatic lightening of the area. It can be uncomfortable. Common triggers are cold and stress. #MedTwitter #dermtwitter #BLM

Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome In Children (MIS-C) occasionally follows infection with COVID-19. Inflammation of the organs, including the skin, can result. A skin rash is a symptom in some, but not all. It's serious, although most children recover. #MedTwitter
