There aren’t really individual successes. Behind every individual success is a community that helped make that success possible. When trying to replicate an individual’s success, it may be just as or more valuable to study that individual’s community than to study the individual.
Being out the country it’s easier to see how we Americans tie our faith and politics together too tightly. I’ve been guilty of this myself. We care far too much about the Empire and far too less about the Kingdom.
In hiring, I overweight intangible qualities vs tangible skills since the latter is more easily taught than the former. I also value exceptionality in unrelated fields more than ok performance in related fields since expecting exceptionality of oneself is an important intangible.
Among the most undervalued entrepreneurs in the market are those that can’t speak the language of investors well, even if they can speak the language of customers well. I’ll take delighted customers and a bad pitch over lukewarm customers and a great pitch all day, every day.

The feedback of real customers and prospects is much more valuable than that of distant “experts”. Ironically, someone called me today asking for my “expert” opinion on a company. I’m no expert - the customer is the expert. Truly, your time is much better spent with them than me.

Nobody gets out unbloodied. Cling to your Healer. Know when you need stitching up. Don’t crave what will kill your character. If God entrusts you with a crowd, refuse to play to it. That’s what sucks a once-faithful servant into the crazy-making quicksand of celebrity syndrome.
It’s idolatry. Don’t clamor for big numbers. And don’t kid yourself that bigger is better for the sake of the gospel. That’s bull. We do the lifting up of Jesus. God does the drawing. Just serve as faithfully as you know how. Repent regularly. Ride the waves & long for the shore.
