I’m Jewish but my wife taught me to love Christmas. I’ve learned from her and our shared family that the birth of any child, anywhere in the world, is never a prosaic event, and that the promise of the future can be seen most clearly when everything seems dark.
The day after we put up our Christmas tree it fell over. My wife lost some heirloom ornaments and our living room rug was soaked. As we cleaned up, we read the latest news about one of my former employers, as we have done together every day since early November.
I had no personal experience with harmful, consequential betrayal in my life until recently. My response hasn’t come as a surprise to me or those who know me. I don’t feel pain, only an urgent need to take action and move on.
It has not been as easy for my family and others I care for deeply who were similarly betrayed, and I will help them.
