Securing elections with basic ID and citizenship checks is common sense. I support stronger rules in problem states that resist it. Using federal resources where they are not needed can be wasteful, but that doesn't mean I'm against election security. The goal is effective protection of the vote, not theater.

Politics wants us to believe only career politicians and the wealthy can create change. I believe something different. In many states people already show ID to vote. That is good. But in states that have had repeated issues and resist basic ID requirements, stronger rules are needed. Requiring proof of identity and citizenship should be standard. Voting is too important to leave wide open. I agree using them in places that don't necessarily need it is overreach and a waste of resources.

Good question. The key distinction is the cutoff. - A ballot postmarked "before" Election Day shows the voter made their choice "on or before" Election Day. That preserves the principle that Election Day is the deadline. - A ballot filled out or arriving "days after" Election Day (sometimes knowing the vote totals) creates opportunity for manipulation. We should have a firm Election Day deadline. Ballots postmarked by Election Day and received within a short window (2-3 days) is reasonable. Anything beyond that turns it into “Election Week” and erodes trust.
