God. This. Is. So. Good. Clear, real examples of the baked in bias that poisons decision making in newsrooms across the country. A must read. thefp.com/p/npr-editor-h…
@BrandiKruse Every journalist and opinion writer at @seattletimes @SeaTimesOpinion should read this.
@BrandiKruse We've been saying this for so long, it's nice that someone is finally admitting it. Question is, what now?
I read it. Should be mandatory reading in journalism schools. Suggestion: can you ask your local universities journalism schools if they'll include this article as part of their classes? Journalism students should read this and take away that biases will destroy any trust or credibility you hope to bring to journalism. If you can't, then you're in the wrong career field.
@uberliner This is an excellent column and refreshing to learn "it's not me". There was a time when I listened to NPR exclusively, but as time went on found myself annoyed by the obvious insertions of opinion into news items. Unnecessary slanting adjectives, opinion stated as fact. I no longer listen. But the thing that I find curious about this is that NPR is funded by the public. Government and donations. Haven't they basically eliminated 50% of their funding source? I know that our local affiliate really feels this when the attempt a fund drive, and I, for one, am not thrilled about contributing my tax dollars.
Every article should include a link to ALL of the questions asked, whether or not they appeared in the finished article! Did the Seattle Times ask even Mike Kreidler about the impact of stolen vehicles on insurance rates in the state? I'm pretty sure he didn't volunteer the information!
@BrandiKruse Thanks for posting Brandi! Finally, some honest journalism!
