Yesterday, USC canceled its Muslim valedictorian’s commencement speech, citing safety concerns. This just aired on my local news and I was just texting my son about it and how wrong I thought it was. I think he nailed it. ‘They just don’t want a pro Palestinian speaker at the graduation.’
@cwebbonline All voices must be heard. This is wrong. However, I’m not privy to her speech or what her intentions might have been. Inciting violence would be a deal-breaker.
@tdenisebates And therein lies the problem. The assumption that a Muslim woman would make the commencement speech about hate. There’s no accusation that I’m aware of that her speech contained hate speech.
@cwebbonline @tdenisebates This is the part that bothers me. The school cited safety concerns about the speech but hasn’t stated what the actual issue is aside from faculty and some students complaining.
@Bobbysworld2021 @tdenisebates USC definitely owes more explanation to the public. And one that gives some g damn clarity. Seems like they’re running scared.
@Bobbysworld2021 @cwebbonline @tdenisebates Exactly. If there were credible threats to her safety, why wouldn't they get the police involved and inform her so she can take precautions?
@Bobbysworld2021 @cwebbonline @tdenisebates It isn't safe for Jewish students. Good enough or do you need a repeat of another massacre?
