@ieatbitcoin @BobSummerwill @thejosuard Turing Completeness describes a system of data manipulation rule. Which rule in BSV loops the tape?
@cyberat2600 @ieatbitcoin @thejosuard To quote myself again from further up: “Script is grossly inefficient, that is true, but it is also not Turing complete. That does not mean it is useless.” Many in BSV land seem to have been fooled into thinking that BSV Script is better than the EVM in an absolute sense.
@cyberat2600 @ieatbitcoin @thejosuard That is completely untrue. It is chronically space inefficient compared to the EVM in terms of bytecode and will bloat up the chain enormously. The lack of statefulness magnified that even more. Transpiler is not magic. Migrating is still very very hard.
@cyberat2600 @ieatbitcoin @thejosuard “But I am also smart enough to know that you can build Turing State Machines with BSV, using the WHOLE SYSTEM incentivized by mining fees to keep the TAPE running.” Craig has claimed that Script alone is Turing Complete too, by the way.
@cyberat2600 @ieatbitcoin @thejosuard If your “whole system” includes humans chaining together transactions to be Turing Complete then it becomes pretty meaningless.
@ieatbitcoin @cyberat2600 @thejosuard Fair enough. My main issue is with CSW's assertion that Bitcoin Script itself is also Turing Complete. Not just the whole system. And the assertion that CSW = Satoshi because he "knew" this ^^
@ieatbitcoin @cyberat2600 @thejosuard Your broader assertion that the whole system is Turing complete is certainly defensible, I concede. It is also true that the BSV whole system is as compute-capable as Ethereum (caveat awful inefficiency and bloat, plus the complexity of working around the lack of state).
@ieatbitcoin @cyberat2600 @thejosuard I am interested to see if any UTXO-based smart contract platforms can balance these two factors and make something with rich compute and parallelization. ie. Cardano’s eUTXOs, and the same in Ergo, I believe. And there must be other attempts at programmable UTXOs.
@ieatbitcoin @cyberat2600 @thejosuard You are still a bit crippled by lack of statefulness, though. Not easy to work out how to model things to do useful work. Some breadcrumbs I have not really followed myself yet, but might interest you? sundaeswap.finance/posts/concurre…
