The search is being conducted off the coast of Newfoundland, and the Coast Guard is working closely with OceanGate Expeditions, the company operating the submersible, as well as other government agencies and deep-sea companies.
The Coast Guard will hold a news conference at 4:30 pm ET to provide updates on the search operation. The Commander of the First Coast Guard District leading the search will address the media.

One of the passengers on the submersible has been identified as Hamish Harding, a British businessman. He owns an aviation company and was one of the first to travel to the deepest known part of the Pacific Ocean. He has undertaken various adventures and record-setting expeditions.
The US Coast Guard has launched a search and rescue operation to locate the missing submersible. They are reaching out to various partners to understand available underwater rescue capabilities. The Coast Guard expects the submersible to have 70-96 hours of emergency oxygen based on information from the tour operator. Locating the submersible is the top priority currently.
