Honestly, the whole list felt weird to me, so I did a little digging and YUP that course is essentially a totally theoretical course that’s sold to schools and such. Presentations include “dowsing rods to expel negative energy”, so I wouldn’t put much stock in this empathy slide.
I will never understand why "sharing similar experiences from your own life" is supposed to be bad?? 😭 it shows me that the person listening to me knows what im talking about cause they went through something similar. Like am I crazy for feeling this way??

Human beings are so lovely in small communities and yet so destructive systemically, I no longer have it in me to value the former over the latter. I simply wonder if cancer cells also find each other funny; if they, too, marvel at the beauty of their host as they destroy it.

Oneshots will generally get more hits than multi-chaps (unless the multi-chap gets picked up as a fandom Big Story), multi-chaps get more hits once complete, and E-rated generally perform best. And none of this is surprising if you think about how fandom works for like 3 seconds.
It says nothing about the quality of the fic or the way readers view fanfic, it literally is just how readership fuckin works. There is a reason serial stories in lit mags also just aren’t a thing for the most part anymore. Can we please stop collectively huffing our own farts??
Oh god please don’t do the “I don’t get comments on my WIPs and that is commodification of fanfic” discourse AGAIN. Insane to me that so many fanfic writers simultaneously refuse to engage with any talk about craft but then also expect every single WIP to attract 100 comments.
Of all the things I won’t say, one thing I will say is there is a Reason (capital R) I never bought or played D*te E*erything…not even out of bitterness or anger, just like…there’s weirded out and then there’s whatever the emotion was that I felt after that exchange lol
