In a healthy lung, alveolar type II cells produce a specialized surfactant that reduces alveoli surface tension, ensuring proper function. In injured lungs, surfactant is diluted and degraded. BioSURF, our synthetic lung surfactant, is designed to restore proper lung function.
A prototype of BioSURF, our bio-engineered lung surfactant, showed in lab testing that it lowers dynamic surface tension, and that is a really good thing.
