If a motion to vacate is offered by some MAGA-type House Republican, Democrats should simply sit it out or abstain, on the grounds that this is an intra-Republican fight that's not their problem. McCarthy would then win a plurality of Republicans easily.
@BillKristol It's super sad how you went from being a Conservative stalwart to....this, or whatever it is you've become.
@BillKristol Or. Just keep voting Jeffries and remind the voters of how ineffective the GOP as proactive governance.
@BillKristol I disagree Bill. Should the GOP remove McCarthy, Democrats should do everything in their power to make electing a replacement take as long as possible. Absent a Speaker, the House will be unable to conduct business and the longer its unable, the better for the country.
@BillKristol Alternatively, republicans can leave McCarthy in place as Speaker. This would provide Democrats continued utilization of one of their best assets in the House of Representatives. Win/Win for Democrats, either way.
@BillKristol Reminder: U.S. House Speaker is second in line to the Presidency. Imagine MTG in that role.
@BillKristol My bet is, McCarthy already received guarantees of his Speakership and that's why the deal turned out pretty well for the D's. Evidence? The squawking from the R's.
@BillKristol Nah I would keep him even though is sino (speaker in name only) if he isn't a speaker a guy like chip Roy or Thomas massie could become a speaker which would be a disaster. With McCarthy the speaker it's easier to pressure him with far right caucus behind his back
