Today marks one week since the Texas Senate began its impeachment trial against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Here’s what we’ve learned so far about Paxton’s corruption and abuse of public office:
The Paxton trial is covering 16 articles of impeachment. He is accused of accepting bribes and favors in exchange for abusing the Attorney General’s Office to help indicted real estate investor Nate Paul avoid legal troubles and business losses. texastribune.org/2023/09/01/ken…
Since before the trial began, billionaire-funded PACs desperate to keep someone as corrupt as Paxton in office have been trying to tamper with the jury. They've spent MILLIONS on campaign contributions to the Texas Senators who will decide Paxton's fate. kxan.com/news/texas/cas…
On Day 1 of the trial, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick—who recently accepted $3 million in campaign contributions from pro-Paxton PACs—hamstrung the proceedings by ruling that Paxton will not have to testify. Paxton has been absent from the trial ever since.
While Paxton has been shielded from testifying, several of his hand-picked former top staffers have taken the stand so far. They’ve detailed just how far Paxton went to abuse the Attorney General’s Office to help Nate Paul—at the expense of Texans’ interests.
