Wholesale gas is 37% cheaper than it was at its peak in March. Retail gas is 53% more expensive than it was in March. The parent company of British Gas reported a 411% increase in profits during this time.
@BeckettUnite You appear to have missed the controls on prices and the retail gas companies going bust.
@BeckettUnite @COWIEKIM It’s a disgrace we will need to take to the streets and get these high energy prices stopped, before the winter sets in. Give this a like if you would raise your voice and put your boots on the ground for lower energy prices.
@BeckettUnite Centrica (the parent company of British Gas) LOST £1.1bn in 2019 and another £577m in 2020. It has paid no dividends since a tiny one 3 years ago Had it been in direct Government ownership, you'd have been on the hook for that, and perhaps more besides. There: fixed it for you
@BeckettUnite @highfivedave Not condoning prices etc but choosing a huge price spike to make a point is pretty cheap.
@BeckettUnite @K_Stand_Red 100% out of ordered. This needs sorting. If @10DowningStreet can’t then the people should
@BeckettUnite Yes we are being ripped off and this useless government is doing nothing about it tories out now
@BeckettUnite I agree we need cheaper but you don’t understand how it works. Also I saw some data a few days ago that contradicts this. As always you post no source. Be good to know more.
@BeckettUnite I recall the water and sewerage companies being sold to allow for increased investment in the system. That went well.
@BeckettUnite @linholden Presumably the gas companies that bought the expensive wholesale gas in March are selling it at a higher retail price to recoup their outlay?
