@AndrewMayne Look at where the investment is clustering. Texas and Arizona. Famously 2 of the hottest, sunniest states in the US. Investment in solar would have a comparable impact on jobs while bringing none of the drawbacks of unnecessary over-use of AI.

@AndrewMayne Comparing AI data centre water usage to completely unrelated industries does nothing to illustrate how much water they use relative to other technology initiatives. But it makes for a nice graphic, I suppose. The same goes for comparison to Netflix.

@AndrewMayne Data centres however being marketed as a way of lowering energy bills is smart, not least because it appeals to the pockets of citizens. The real estate taken up by the data centre could have just as much impact on energy bills if solar or wind power were harnessed in its place.

@AndrewMayne I'm also highly critical of advocating the use of AI to get ready for school, because while it can be a powerful tool for teachers to create learning resources, it can lead to the dumbing-down of academic integrity and lead to educators getting lazy.

@AndrewMayne Not enough emphasis is placed on this, and too many people see it as an all-seeing, all-knowing substitute for actually using their brain. I get that the technology is rapidly expanding, but more should be done to promote the drawbacks as well as the benefits.
