Don't blame the Arizona Supreme Court for its ruling finding the 1864 abortion ban enforceable today. The court did what it's supposed to do. It interpreted the statutes and determined the constitutionality of the laws. It did not set the policy. The AZ GOP legislature in 2022, just two years ago, passed a bill restricting abortions to within 15 weeks of pregnancy. However, because the MAGA legislature knew there were pending cases before the newly constituted conservative Supreme Court that could overturn Roe v Wade, it included a provision that should Roe be overturned, the 15 week ban goes away and the 1864 total ban is the law. The Republican legislature knew exactly what it was doing. Then Gov Ducey signed the bill into law and he KNEW exactly what it said. AZ GOP created this and now they will reap what they sow. Any one of them could have stopped this and they didn't because they support a total abortion ban. Do not let them change their position now. Do not let them wiggle out of this problem they created. If it wasn't politically bad for them now, Republicans would still want a total abortion ban.
@BarryMarkson1 Why on Earth should they not change their position if they decide the position is wrong? That's what rational people are supposed to do,
@BarryMarkson1 Can't they "evolve" like other politicians do?
@BarryMarkson1 President Trump gave his stance explicitly yesterday. I guess we’ll see what is on the ballot right?
The other take is that the Democrats 100% voted against the common sense measure of 15 weeks and the only way to get it passed was to have the Freedom caucus vote as well which included their language for the 1864 bill. When the Republicans reintroduce the bill wo the 1864 language will it now get bi partisan support or Dems don’t care now and will try to make it another ballot box thing they can cheat at?
@BarryMarkson1 @gardengirl125 Not only that, but several times Dems tried to get the Republicans in the AZ legislature to repeal the law and they refused. Even attempt just after the court decision-yes, the folk claiming they changed their views are full of it. Watch what they do, not say.
@BarryMarkson1 Is this an episode of Scooby Doo? Have another drink..
@BarryMarkson1 How can a law be constitutional when Arizona wasn't even a state and women couldn't vote. That's unconstitutional.
@BarryMarkson1 Hillary is right on the mark! Again!
@BarryMarkson1 But that law was created before women, the target of the law, could vote. So they should have tossed it as unconstitutional.
@BarryMarkson1 But our AZ Supreme court is overly conservative because of former governor Ducey. I want a balanced court. So I sm voting both justices OUT!
