It's disheartening to see so many root against Zcash. We owe so much to the courage of the Zcash team: ten years ago, Zcash was a moonshot. They were the 1st to deploy a *fully* anonymous payment system and the 1st to deploy a zkSNARK-based cryptosystem. Rooting against the team being able to recover from this bug is rooting against all other serious privacy efforts for cryptocurrencies: they are all based on the same nullifier techniques via circuit-based zkSNARKs. This is not a zero-sum game. Zcash has been showing us the way for over a decade and will continue to do so. e.g., Zcash will soon be the 1st team to deploy a *formally-verified* zkSNARK circuit implementation for anonymous payments.

@Zpartanll7 @tulipking Great point. This stuff is hard. You want to be on the chain with the strongest devs and researchers, hyper-focused on exactly these issues. This a concrete reason why a privacy app on some other L1 (eth, sol) will be less trustworthy and less likely to accrue sov use.

So, have I got this right? The best AI model available has confirmed: - Zcash has no vulnerabilities - No double spend possibilities - No infinite printing possibilities - Unable to deanonymize any transactions - Unable to break the cryptography All the previous FUD is now invalidated. Bullish.

As I have already mentioned, Mythos and other AI tools are likely going to find/have already found hundred, if not thousands, of critical vulnerabilities like this. Many have probably been found in some of the banks that hold your life savings. Yet, many corporations and teams will not disclose this information. They know the risks it would bring to their brand. Does that make them a better team or verify that they have a better product? No. It only shows that they lack the integrity to disclose such information and that they prioritise the value of their brand over the safety of their users. Not only are @ShieldedLabs choosing to disclose this, they also offer a potential turnstile solution to verify the 21m hard cap. Something that many people probably didn't read the article for long enough to find out. This is an example of A+ disclosure and integrity, and other teams should take note.

Incredible transparency and honesty from Zcash devs. I'm glad they found this issue and moved fast to help the network get secured. There isn't a better way to handle these issues.

All your blockchains are fucked, you just don't know it yet Zcash devs are prob the only competent people in crypto and proactively found this bug, your shit tier cloned L1s and L2s will not be so fortunate

yes bugs exist in software, I recall BTC having several colossal ones including BTC supply going to 184 billion coins vs 21m the reality is that outside of self-custodying a transparent asset on an L1 without using any smart contracts (where the ultimate defense would be a rollback or split), there is always a risk of bugs in crypto. the only difference in privacy is that privacy makes it harder to detect timely (though defi hackers move funds super fast to get away anyway as we saw at least 10 times this year so in practice it ends the same) that is not a reason to write crypto to zero but to keep strengthening it with things like formal verification and provable soundness. otherwise there's no point to the industry. the facts right now are that the bug was patched and there's no known exploit. to your point, won't be able to prove this until the next upgrade, but it's coming soon there is just no point in crypto if we're not trying to improve the software custodying funds and so we will make it work because we must

Zcash is at the forefront of AI-driven security research. The rest of crypto needs to follow ASAP, otherwise tons of exploits will happen.
